It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the last few days have been nothing less than a roller coaster ride for Ryan Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs). He was fresh off a stellar victory against WBC super lightweight champion Devin Haney (31-1, 15 KOs) when VADA notified both the fighters and their teams that ‘KingRy’ had tested positive for Ostarine, a performance-enhancing drug. As the uncertainty around one of Garcia’s biggest victories yet rages on, UFC Bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley (18-1-1, 12 KOs) revealed why the outcome will certainly “suck.”
O’Malley was recently a guest on the latest episode of Raw Talk hosted by fitness influencer Bradley Martyn. The drug tests were conducted once before the fight and once immediately after, and Garcia had failed both tests. Additionally, he had also tested positive for the 19-Norandrosterone metabolite, albeit unconfirmed. However, later tests determined that the results were negative.
Meanwhile, with the Ostarine cloud unceasingly hovering over Garcia, O’Malley left no stone unturned in voicing his annoyance. “I mean, there’s got to be like some kind of a hearing or some kind of thing with the athletic commission to where the truth will be revealed,” he said.
O’Malley also mentioned that there is a possibility of an ongoing investigation to look into the positive drug test, but he quickly added that things might not end in Garcia’s favor. “That would suck for that idiot because then he would lose all that money. He’s got to if he tested positive for straight-up steroids. I’m sure they’re gonna, you know, take away the money,” he said.
“I Got In There High As F*ck”
Meanwhile, it looks like Garcia had bigger fish to fry than taking performance-enhancing drugs. In fact, he even confessed to being high while facing Haney.
“If I were on steroids, I would’ve been in way better shape. I was literally drinking every day, smoking weed, every single day,” Garcia said on the Fully Tilted podcast. “I didn’t stop, not even until the f*cking day of the fight. And I got in there high as f*ck, and I beat his ass.”
