Sebastian Fundora (23-1-1, 14 KOs) is currently gearing up to fight Keith Thurman (31-1-1, 23 KOs) on March 28. But it looks like he might just have his next showdown, provided all goes well against Thurman, and it is in one of the most coveted cards in boxing currently, ‘Mexico vs The World’.
Talking to the Ring Magazine, Fundora revealed that he hoped to face Vergil Ortiz (24-0, 22 KOs) on Canelo Alvarez’s fight card.
“It would be great to fight on the Canelo card. I’ll be ready to fight again in September after the Thurman fight. There are all kinds of big opportunities for me to be in big fights. It can be against whoever, since there are all kinds of names,” he said. “I’m going to fight these guys. I’m chopping down whoever steps up. I’m building a legacy. I’ll fight Vergil.”
It is no surprise as to why this fight will work, as this is undoubtedly one of the best style clashes at 154. Fundora is a pressure fighter who knows how to pummel from awkward angles, while Ortiz is a compact, explosive puncher with elite knockout power and aggression. This contrast guarantees action. On top of that, both are near the top of the division.

And with his position as one of the top names at 154, Fundora has no plans to move up or down in weight anytime soon.
“I’m still comfortable at 154 pounds right now, and there are a lot more fights left for me in the division. It’s the best division in boxing, and I feel like I am on top of the world. I’m going to stay at 154 until we run dry. It’s all about working hard and staying humble. I want to take advantage of it since we’re here,” he said.
“This Is A New Era”
Meanwhile, the upcoming fight has certainly gotten him excited. Even though he agrees that Thurman is a phenomenal fighter, he is sure that he’ll emerge the victor on fight night.
“I’m not surprised that I am such a big betting favorite. I’m expecting the best Keith Thurman, but this is a new era. I’m beating him down,” he said.
