Shakur Stevenson (25-2, 20 KOs) might boast of an unblemished boxing record, but his skills don’t equate to him being a division’s “monster”, or so says Ryan Garcia (25-0, 11 KOs).
Talking to David Benavidez while training at his gym, Garcia questioned Stevenson’s claims of being the “best”.
“I really want to fight Shakur bad. I don’t like those people who think. You’re not the best. You’re not even showing you’re like that,” he said.
Garcia has often criticized Stevenson’s defensive, low-risk style, a feeling that is, surprisingly, shared by many boxing aficionados, with many calling his fights uninteresting.
On the flip side, Stevenson has dismissed Garcia as more of a social-media star with speed and power but questionable discipline and fundamentals. Their “beef” isn’t from one single incident, rather it has been one building through interviews, callouts and fan debates about who’s truly elite. In fact, this drama is not merely a competitive tension at this point, with it seeming a lot more like stylistic disrespect by two guys trying to protect their reputation as top-tier fighters.
According to Garcia, Stevenson is far too soft to be called the best.
“It’s one thing to win a fight, and another thing to show I’m like that. He’s out here saying, ‘Oh, I’m the best.’ You’re not the best fighter. There’s a lot of guys that are monsters. You’re not a monster. He’s more like a puppy,” he said.

However, it can be said that a fight that fans are looking forward to is Garcia’s rematch against Devin Haney. According to Garcia’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, while there is no official update yet, fans can expect to see the fight happening very soon.
“No update yet. No official update. But if you ask me personally, that’s the fight that should happen next. I think Devin Haney proved he deserves the fight, so I think Ryan vs Devin should be next,” he said.
