Shakur Stevenson Reveals Why Terence Crawford is the ‘Greatest’ Against Canelo Alvarez

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) might have a hard time against Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs), according to Shakur Stevenson (23-0, 11 KOs).

It was recently reported that Crawford vs Alvarez was “agreed” to take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on September 13, 2025. While there is still an ample amount of time for fight night, Stevenson is certain about who will end up being the victor.

Talking to the Ring Magazine, Stevenson highlighted that he had predicted Crawford’s victory against Alvarez almost 4 years prior.

“I’ve been putting it out since Crawford fought Shawn Porter; I said that Terence Crawford would beat Canelo Alvarez right after he fought Shawn Porter,” he said. “I felt in that weight class [168], Terence Crawford is the greatest. I just feel that with Canelo’s style, and this is before Bivol did it. I felt that Terence Crawford was the only guy that could beat Canelo with his style.”

Stevenson, however, is unsure about how Alvarez would handle Crawford’s raw power. In fact, he pointed out that he has even seen Crawford hurt heavyweight boxers.

“I’ve been saying it, even before Bud was saying it. Bud is a southpaw. Him being a southpaw makes it harder for Canelo. He has problems with them after I watched him fight John Ryder. He wasn’t that good. It’s just that Canelo was fighting against a southpaw,” he said.

“I Feel Like Terence Can Outbox Him”

Meanwhile, there is yet another fighter who is sure that Crawford will emerge as the victor in the fight, former champion Hasim Rahman. Talking about Alvarez’s fight against Jermell Charlo in 2023, he mentioned that he wasn’t very impressed with his performance, adding that it might have even given Crawford a “blueprint.”

“I feel like Terence can outbox him. I don’t think Terence will knock him out. Terence is clever in the ring. Terence know how to maneuver the ring,” he said while talking to FIghtHype. “I think the ring generalship belongs to Terence. I think Canelo got a little spoiled, and I think he’s been fighting softer touches lately. I think that’s gonna be to his disservice in this fight.”
