Boxing makes its return to New York on Saturday night to start the new year as Fresh Productions hosts a WBC super lightweight title fight on Saturday, January 10, live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and on PPV.com.
The WBC champion Subriel Matias (23-2, 22 KOs) defends his title against undefeated top contender Dalton Smith(18-0, 13 KOs) in a fight that is as close to 50/50 as you can get regarding the betting odds. Matias has been in the headlines recently after testing positive for Ostarine, but a B-Sample apparently showed not enough of a positive result to strip him of the title or cancel the fight.
FightsATW contacted VADA (Volunteer Anti-Doping Agency) for clarification, but VADA redirected the inquiry to the event promoter, who is responsible for paying for the tests. That’s a subject for another article, but for now, Matias has been cleared by the WBC and the NYSAC (New York State Athletic Commission) to move forward with the fight against Smith.
Who will emerge victorious on Saturday night, and will that lead to unification fights in 2026 at 140?
