We are just hours away from WWE kicking off SummerSlam 2025 Night 1 live from the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. The rest of the year’s bookings leading into next year will be determined by what happens beginning with Night 1. How will each match play out?
World Heavyweight Championship Match: Gunther (c) vs. CM Punk
The main event for Night 1 is CM Punk vs. Gunther. This is an intriguing matchup from a technical perspective, as Gunther is a great worker in the ring, but Punk is one of the best veteran wrestlers still active on the current WWE roster. This will likely give old-school wrestling vibes as both competitors will look to outmaneuver one another.
This year has been a helluva ride for Punk, and it feels as though SummerSlam will be the moment where he finally captures gold. Unfortunately, the moment will be cut short as the Money in the Bank briefcase will be cashed in by either a returning Seth Rollins or a dramatic cash-in by none other than Bron Breakker. The Breakker cash-in would bring in a fresh perspective, and if Rollins is really hurt, you could do a Rollins vs. Breakker story later on upon Rollins’ return. For now, putting the title on Breakker feels like the right move as he has undeniable talent. If Rollins cashes in and his injury was a work, that would make his faction even stronger as it goes to the next level.
WWE Women’s Championship Match: Tiffany Stratton (c) vs. Jade Cargill

There has been a decent buildup for this match between Tiffany Stratton and Jade Cargill. This match will likely have Cargill get the Bill Goldberg treatment with limited moves and slow pacing. This moment will determine if Cargill is ready for the next step, but putting the title on her at SummerSlam isn’t the moment to do so. If Cargill passes the eye test, then it will give WWE the confidence to put the title on her later on. For Stratton, this is an opportunity for her to show the WWE that at a young point in her career, she can be trusted in putting someone over. In the end, Stratton will emerge victorious, but Cargill will demonstrate her readiness for the next step in her development.
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Match: The Judgment Day (Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez) (c) vs. Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss

The women’s WWE tag team title match appears to be an opportunity for Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss to become the new tag team champs. Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez have done a decent job, but during this match, we’ll see the return of Liv Morgan, which will create a new storyline between Liv and Roxanne with Rodriguez caught in the middle deciding which side she will take. In the end, Flair and Bliss become the odd new women’s tag team champs, bringing back all of The Rock & Sock connection feels.
Roman Reigns & Jey Uso vs. Bron Breakker & Bronson Reed
This is a big-time faces vs heels type of match. If I had to guess, this one kicks off the show because of the star power behind it. Roman Reigns is still the “big dog,” and Jey Uso’s Yeet fan club is as big as anyone’s right now. Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed have done a fantastic job settling in as heels. Without Seth Rollins, Breakker and Reed have to maintain their position of power and authority until he returns. This match will be filled with power moves, but in the end, the faces (Reigns and Uso) will be the ones to come out victorious.
Randy Orton and Jelly Roll vs. Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul

I’m not expecting this tag match to be anything more than what we’ve seen historically from tag team matches involving celebrities. Randy Orton, Drew McIntyre, and Logan Paul will do all of the heavy lifting when it comes to the wrestling part of the match. At one point, Jelly Roll will get a “hot tag” and do his thing before getting beaten up. This match won’t be too long, and in the end, the team of Orton and Jelly Roll will have their hands raised in victory.
Sami Zayn vs. Karrion Kross
This match is unpredictable, as Karrion Kross has been doing his best work outside of the ring with podcast appearances and cutting promos on social media. He’s been desperately trying to turn wrestlers to the dark side, but nothing has worked. Sami Zayn may be the guy that finally gives in, but how this match plays out will be determined by how healthy Kross is, as he’s been battling with injuries. I think Kross wins this one, and Zayn joins him with whatever mission he has up his sleeve.
