Super welterweight Chordale Booker’s Story Is A Hard Mix Of Boxing & Life

Super-welterweight Chordale Bookers fight goes beyond the boxing ring.

Booker, a 22-fight veteran, understands the importance of the youth movement. He’s had run-ins with the law during his youth, having been arrested on gun and narcotics charges. Booker vowed to change his ways and serve as a symbol of hope for communities. To achieve this, he has created the “Go The Distance” foundation.

Booker‘s efforts serve as a way for law enforcement to get to know black communities better. He feels training and boxing reminds us all that we’re human beings.

“Go The Distance, to be honest, was inspired by the police brutality,” Booker said. “I just didn’t wanna keep speaking out about police ’cause I have a lot of respect for police, and honestly, the closest people I had to me growing up who were role models were officers. Even though most people have these things against them, I’m like, ‘Alright, let me try to show a different light. Let me have these officers come in, work out with the kids, hold pads with the kids, do boxing with them, situps, pushups, pullups.’ Let me break down these walls ’cause everybody, when they’re working out, they’re all the same.”

When Booker’s attention isn’t on his foundation, it’s inside the ring. He is quite familiar with rising undefeated star Charles Conwell. The two have boxed one another outside of the pro ranks. Booker shared that it’s all in the name of competition when asked if he’d want a chance to avenge his loss to Conwell in the Olympic Trials.

“Yeah, absolutely,” Booker said. “Charles (Conwell) is my dog, though. Lot of respect for Charles.” With that said Booker did admit that he feels he should’ve had his hand raised against Conwell.

“I’m not even gonna front, first time we fought, he beat me easy,” Booker said. “But I don’t believe the second time when we were in trials, it’s just my opinion, I don’t feel like he beat me. It was a split decision, but I just felt like I edged it out.”

On February 3, ‘The Gift’ will face Greg Vendetti inside the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. Booker’s WBC USA super welterweight title will be at stake. He is hoping to extend his winning streak to five. Booker feels confident that he’ll get the job done.

“To be honest, it ain’t nothing different for this guy,” Booker said. “He gonna do the same thing he always do. He gonna walk forward, he gonna move his head, he gonna try to pretend to be Mike Tyson.”

Booker is rather puzzled by the banter from Vendetti’s team. He says there’s no way the opposition could possibly think he’d break down in the later rounds.

“If they believe that they stupid, bro,” Booker said. “I got one loss, and my one loss came in the first round. So, I don’t know what the f*** you talking about.”
