‘Tank’ Davis Eyes Shakur Stevenson After Lomachenko Reveals He’s ‘Not in the Mood’

Gervonta “Tank” Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) for a potential WBA and IBF lightweight world title unification against Vasiliy Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs). While the talks between Bob Arum’s Top Rank and Al Haymon’s PBC seemed to pave the way for a well-anticipated showdown, Lomachenko announced that he is stepping down from the matchup. With his potential fight against Loma in disarray, it now looks like Davis has set his sights on Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs).

Talking to reporter Steve Kim, Lomachenko’s manager, Egis Klimas, revealed that the Ukrainian wishes to take time off the sport altogether.

“Loma is not in the mood right now, he doesn’t have the motivation at the moment. He’s taking off; he wants to spend more time with the family. He doesn’t want to do anything till the end of the year,” he said. “So, he’s definitely not coming to the ring till the end of the year.”

Klimas further mentioned that money does not motivate Lomachenko and that he’d rather spend quality time with his family than be inside the ring. With Lomachenko out of the picture, Davis’ coach, Kenny Ellis, revealed that a fight between Davis and Stevenson might just be around the corner.

“He’s been ducking. He’s been ducking. Reality hit his a*s when that fight was getting made, ‘Hell no! I ain’t getting in there with that animal,’” he said while taking a dig at Lomachenko for backing out. He then turned his attention towards Stevenson, “Hopefully, Shakur won’t duck. People are saying Tank and Shakur, let’s see.”

“We’ll See Him Again”

Meanwhile, Lomachenko’s promoter, Bob Arum, is certain that fans will witness the champ fight again in the first quarter of 2025. Talking to BoxingScene, Arum stated that he was forced to back out due to unavoidable circumstances. “We’ll see him again. Lomachenko made that clear. He doesn’t want to fight for the rest of the year – it’s legitimate, stuff to do with Ukraine and his family,” he said. Arum added that Lomachenko would most definitely fight Davis when he returns in 2025.
