There are few fighters who have managed to keep their names relevant through these rapid-fire news cycles, and one of them just signed an exclusive deal with DAZN. Former WBO junior welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez (22-2, 13 KOs) has signed a multi-fight deal with DAZN for his Takeover Promotions LLC., as announced on Monday.

Whether Lopez is in the news for his performance in the ring or for some of his antics outside it, he tends to find a way to keep his name circulating through the algorithms. While most fighters disappear from social media until a month before their fight and then again shortly after, Lopez creates content, and it has landed him a deal that fans may not have thought possible. The term “pushing the needle” describes Lopez, and his first fight under the new DAZN deal begins on August 22, when he faces WBA welterweight champion Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero live on DAZN PPV.

Lopez stated the following in a DAZN press release: “This is the beginning of a new era for The Takeover,” said Lopez. “DAZN understands the vision I have for my career and gives me the opportunity to pursue the biggest fights against the best available opponents. It starts August 22 at 147 pounds. Rolly has the belt, and I’m coming to take it.”

DAZN is also excited about this partnership as it looks to do more with Lopez in the future.

“Teófimo Lopez is one of boxing’s most compelling talents, and we are excited to welcome him to DAZN through this exclusive multi-fight partnership,” said Britton Hardin, Head of Boxing, North America at DAZN. “Teófimo has built his career by embracing major challenges, and his move to welterweight opens the door to an entirely new series of meaningful fights. With the depth of talent and promotional partners now on DAZN, we can provide Teófimo with the platform, flexibility and opponents to continue building his legacy while delivering the matchups boxing fans want to see.”

Whether Lopez beats Romero in August or not, it looks like Lopez will be fighting on DAZN for the foreseeable future.
