It has barely been a few days since ‘The Problem Child’ Jake Paul (10-1, 7 KOs) dished out an impressive 6th-round TKO win against MMA fighter Mike Perry (0-2). While the victory was sensational in itself, it sure looks like the boxing community and fans can’t stop talking about his postponed and now upcoming fight against the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet” Mike Tyson (50-6-2, 44 KOs). As the fight date inches closer, Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) made a rather bold claim about Paul.

Crawford was recently a guest on the MMA Hour hosted by Ariel Helwani. Paul had previously mentioned he would secure a cruiserweight title in 2 years. In conversation, Crawford expressed confidence in Paul’s claims and skillset. “It’s possible. A lot of people write Jake off but Jake can punch with that right hand. He’s got a nice right hand,” he said.
Crawford added that Paul earned his respect with his dedication to the sport.
“I gained a lot of respect for Jake because he’s not a YouTuber that’s just boxing just to box. He actually trains and actually wants to get better. And he actually got better and really putting his time and, focus and energy into boxing. So you got to respect that,” he said. Paul was originally set to fight Tyson in July. However, the fight had to be postponed after Tyson suffered an ulcer flare-up. The fight is now scheduled to take place in November.
“Age Is The Only Reason”
Many members of the boxing community have pointed out the major age difference between Paul and Tyson in their matchup. However, Paul’s former opponent, Tyron Woodley (0-2), believes that the age difference is probably Paul’s only chance in the fight. Talking at the Fighter vs Writer podcast, he revealed that he was looking forward to the fight between the duo.
“If Tyson has a flashback of a moment of a past fight, and he does that sh*t to Jake, it’s a wrap. So that’s the fight. The age is the only reason why Paul even has a chance. That’s why it’s kind of an even fight. Paul’s age, youth, and ability to just have a screw loose, and Mike’s experience, 60 pro fights, world titles against killers, and just being probably the most feared combat competitor ever,” he said.
