Terence Crawford Is Locked In Ahead Of Fight With Israil Madrimov

Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) is here to take the super welterweight division by storm with a sensational showdown against Uzbekistan’s Israil Madrimov (10-0-1, 7 KOs). As the fight date approaches, Crawford is certainly not letting the pressure get the best of him. Talking to Matchroom Boxing, he left no stone unturned while revealing why “The Best in the World” is here to stay.

“Realistically, the next step was to do a rematch with Spence. For whatever reason, it didn’t happen, so I had to move on with my career. The ultimate goal was to try to get the Canelo fight. That didn’t happen, so we went to the next best thing,” Crawford said while talking about why he took up the Madrimov fight.

‘Bud’ initially wanted to face Jermell Charlo (35-2-1, 19 KOs) at 154. However, Charlo moving up to super middleweight to face Canelo Alvarez, drove a wedge in his plans, which, in turn, paved the way for Madrimov. Meanwhile, Crawford did not shy away from acknowledging the fact that his upcoming opponent was a phenomenal fighter.

“He wants what I’ve got, and that’s the recognition, the accolades, the pound-for-pound spot. He wants to be on top of the world like myself. He’s going to be filled with so much energy to prove to the world that he belongs in the ring with the top fighters,” he said.

Crawford further mentioned that he considers Madrimov the best fighter at 154 currently. And was, in fact, looking forward to facing the ‘top guy in the division.’

But, according to Crawford, this does not mean that the fight would be a gargantuan feat for him.

“As for myself, I’ve been here before. This is nothing new. I know how to handle things like this. I know how to go about fighting these types of guys that have a lot to prove. Come fight night, I will show the world once and for all, once again, why I’m the best fighter on the planet,” he said.

“This Division Is My division”

While Crawford gets ready for fight night, Madrimov made it a point to remind him that he was the champion at 154 for a reason. Talking at the recent grand arrivals, Madrimov urged Crawford not to underestimate his prowess in his division.

“I don’t think this fight is about the size. It’s about the experience and knowledge he can use. This division is my division, and I’m the champion. I have to defend the belt,” he said.
