Boxing aficionados long hoped that Tyson Fury’s (34-2-1, 24 KOs) retirement announcement early this year was a temporary one. While ‘The Gypsy King’ had often announced his retirement, he had always made it a point to return to the ring that made him a household name. However, this time it looks like he is staying retired for good.
Talking to Furocity, Fury doubled down on his decision to stay retired and not take any more chances. And his message was as direct as it could be.
“The Gypsy King is dead. I don’t want to tempt fate, you know what I mean. I don’t want to keep going back and back and back to the world because how many times can you keep doing it without getting brain damage,” he said.
This would only mean one thing for fans: the highly anticipated mega fights against Anthony Joshua and the trilogy showdown against Oleksandr Usyk may not see the light of day.

Fury’s last two outings inside the ring were anything but satisfactory, with him suffering the first two (or only two) losses of his professional career. So, it isn’t surprising that he wants to bid adieu to the sport before pushing his body to the extreme once again.
“I’m 37 years old, I’ve been punched for the last 25 years, what do I want to go back to boxing for? It used to be for the money, the titles, but now I’ve got more money than I can spend, I’ve got unlimited amounts of belts and titles, and does it make me any happier? No,” he said. “Was the chase better than the victory? Yes. The climb was better than the mountain peak, to be fair. Always the case.”
“What Am I Going To Do With It?”
Now, promoters might say that they’d pay Fury more to entice him to return to the ring. But he is adamant that money doesn’t have the same effect on him.
“Like, if you give me another 100 million, what am I going to do with it? Like it’s not going to affect my life at all,” Fury said during the same interview. “I thought like, oh, being rich and being famous and being successful and having everything you ever wanted, you’d make you feel better.”
