The Top 5 Money in the Bank Moments

The Money in the Bank ladder match has become a fan favorite in WWE. Since its inception back in 2005, fans have taken a liking to the carnage that comes with each match. It has become so popular that the match itself is its own pay-per-view event.

With both men and women now vying to secure the briefcase that guarantees them a world title cash-in, it’s no wonder why fans have been all in on the concept for nearly 20 years. Here are five of the top Money in The Bank match moments.

5. Ember Moon Hits Eclipse Off A Ladder – May 19, 2019, XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut

Ember Moon is performing as Athena under the AEW and ROH banners these days. In 2019, however, she was busy doing a wild Money in the Bank spot that hasn’t been forgotten. Moon competed in the women’s MITB ladder match along with Bayley, Carmella, Dana Brooke, Mandy Rose, Naomi, Natalya, and Nikki Cross.

A ladder had been set up outside, and Moon couldn’t help but climb it. Natalya was inside the ring, and Moon used this as an opportunity to hit her finishing move, the Eclipse, for a memorable MITB spot.

4. Andrade’s Wicked Sunset Flip Onto Ladder – May 19, 2019, XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut

The men’s ladder match also had incredible highlights in the main event of that same MITB show. One of them was an insane spot involving Andrade and Finn Balor. Both superstars climbed up the ladder in an attempt to retrieve the briefcase. A separate ladder was positioned between the middle rope and the ladder both men were fighting on.

Unfortunately for Balor, his back was against the bridged ladder. Andrade took advantage by sending Finn crashing to the ladder via a sunset flip. Balor bounced off the ladder when his back hit, making this one of the more brutal-looking bumps on a ladder over the past few years.

3. Ricochet’s Incredible Balancing Act – July 18, 2021, Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas

Some WWE superstars are known for taking high risks. Well, Ricochet is the embodiment of high risk. Whether he’s doing acrobatics with Will Ospreay during their junior heavyweight days in New Japan Pro Wrestling or landing his 630° senton to capture gold in WWE, Ricochet knows how to leave the crowd on the edge of their seats.

The 2021 Money in the Bank pay-per-view was no exception. Ricochet was featured in the men’s MITB ladder match, including Drew McIntyre, John Morrison, Kevin Owens, Shinsuke Nakamura, Riddle, and Seth Rollins.

Riddle thought he was all alone at one point and went to climb up the ladder. Ricochet saw this and tightropeed it before jumping onto the ladder. Riddle was knocked off but then shoved the ladder in an attempt to get Ricochet out of the ring. Instead, Ricochet landed on the top rope and did a springboard senton onto Big E, John Morrison, Seth Rollins, and Shinsuke Nakamura.

2. Kofi Kingston Drops The Boom On Announce Table – July 18, 2010, Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri

Kofi Kingston has had his share of Money in the Bank ladder matches. He’s also created many highlight reel moments, but perhaps his most notable one occurred in 2010. Kingston was featured in the ladder match along with Kane, Big Show, Christian, Cody Rhodes, Dolph Ziggler, Drew McIntyre, and Matt Hardy.

Kingston has never been afraid of using aerial maneuvers. During this match, he hit his career’s biggest and most dangerous Boom Drop. With McIntyre laid out on the announce table, Kofi climbed up a ladder and landed a thunderous Boom Drop on Drew right through the table.

1. Shelton Benjamin Runs Up Ladder & Lariats Chris Jericho – April 3, 2005, Staples Center in Los Angeles, California

Before WWE held its Money in the Bank PPV events, the match was held at WrestleMania. The inaugural MITB match was held at WrestleMania 21. The participants in this match were Edge, Chris Jericho, Christian, Chris Benoit, Shelton Benjamin, and Kane.

At one point during the match, Jericho attempted to grab the briefcase for a guaranteed cash-in opportunity on the world champion. Another ladder was resting on top of the ladder Jericho was climbing. Benjamin used this as an opportunity to run up the ladder and clothesline Jericho down to the mat. It was a breathtaking spot that left fans in awe.
