In his middleweight debut, although the fight was a catchweight at 157 pounds, Tim Tszyu (27-3, 18 KOs) secured a unanimous decision victory with a shutout over Denis Nurja (20-1, 9 KOs). All three judges scored it 100-88 for Tszyu, who is currently ranked fourth with the WBO at middleweight.
After the fight, Tszyu was asked about fighting Errol Spence Jr next, which seems to be the plan, and he all but confirmed that it will happen soon. The exact location and date are still to be announced, but all reports indicate the fight will take place in the summer.
In the opening round, Nurja found success with the left jab and overhand right as Tszyu tried to establish his distance. Once he did, Tszyu began throwing his own left jab at Nurja’s head and body.
Tszyu began to open up in the second round as a left uppercut followed by a left hook to Nurja’s head got him a little buzzed. Tszyu’s began to throw the 1-2 combination more fluidly. In the third round, Tszyu threw the 1-2 combination more often as Nurja was on the back foot. Tszyu showed patience, and his punch selection was better than in previous fights.

Nurja and Tszyu had a clash of heads in the fourth round, resulting in a deep cut underneath Tszyu’s left eye. After visibly being upset about the cut, Tszyu landed a powerful left hook to Nurja’s temple, sending him down to the mat for the fight’s first knockdown. Nurja got up but was immediately greeted with a barrage of punches before the bell rang.
In the fifth round, Tszyu kept applying pressure as he changed the speed and power of his punches, giving Nurja fits throughout the round. Nurja landed a big shot here and there, but it wasn’t enough to disrupt Tszyu’s rhythm. Tszyu continued his dominance, and when he landed an overhand right to the temple, Nurja’s legs buckled. Tszyu tried to finish him, but with 10 seconds left in the round, he was unable to get it done.
In the seventh round, the referee deducted a point from Nurja for holding and he was never able to find his rhythm. Tszyu dominated rounds eight through ten as well, resulting in a unanimous decision victory.
