TNA Thursday Night iMPACT 3/5 Recap: Steve Maclin Reinstated, Leon Slater Battles Nic Nemeth

TNA Wrestling is on the road to “Sacrifice,” which means another episode of “TNA iMPACT” aired on AMC. The TNA Knockouts World Championship was on the line as Arianna Grace took on Jody Threat. Another marquee match for Thursday’s edition of “iMPACT” was contested for the TNA X Division Championship. Leon Slater put his gold at stake against Nic Nemeth.

Before the match began, Tessa Blanchard made her way out with Victoria Crawford and Mila Moore. Blanchard was a guest on commentary.Arianna Grace attacked Jody Threat during the ring introductions. Threat landed clubbing blows to the champion in the corner. Dani Luna showed up at ringside. Threat went high-risk, but Stacks distracted her to allow Grace to pull the challenger down.

Indi Hartwell then appeared at ringside. On the ramp, Lei Ying Lee and Xia Brookside appeared. In the ring, Grace sunk in a leg lock. Threat rebounded and landed a German suplex. Threat landed a suicide dive on Stacks. Grace tried using Santino’s cobra, but Threat avoided it. Threat sold her injured ribs from last week’s attack from Blanchard, Crawford, and Moore. This allowed Grace to score the pin.

Tom Hannifan Addresses Steve Maclin’s Betrayal

Last week, Steve Maclin assaulted TNA Wrestling play-by-play commentator Tom Hannifan. He also shoved color commentator Matthew Rehwoldt to the floor. Hannifan said he was disgusted by Maclin’s actions. Rehwoldt said he hopes Maclin gets his comeuppance.

Leon Slater’s X Division Title Run on Borrowed Time?

Gia Miller was backstage interviewing Nic Nemeth, who was joined by Ryan. Nic said he put Leon Slater back in his place last week. He credited Slater for his athleticism but said he’s not as good as he is right now.

ODB Ruins The Elegance Brand’s Night

The Elegance Brand was in the ring, with the exception of Ash. The Personal Concierge said Ash wasn’t in attendance due to “mental health reasons” after Mickie James called her a “mark” last week. Heather said Ash saved her career, and the crowd was ungrateful. M by Elegance said James’ era is over.

The Elegance brand took aim at the cast of “Mama June.” ODB appeared and took exception to The Elegance Brand’s antics. A brawl broke out, and ODB kicked Mr. Elegance low. ODB handed the cast of “Mama June” some raw meat, and they poured it over Heather and M.

The Hardys Encourage Leon Slater

Leon Slater was working out backstage when he was given positive reinforcement from The Hardys. Slater thanked Matt and Jeff Hardy for their help over the past few months. The Hardys said they’ll be watching Slater, as well as the upcoming four-way tag team No. 1 contender match.

The System vs. The Righteous vs. Sinner and Saint vs. Rich Swann and BDE – TNA World Tag Team Championship No. 1 Contender Match

BDE hit a springboard crossbody on Travis Williams early on. Williams rebounded with a suplex before tagging in Judas Icarus. Rich Swann got in a tag, and he popped Icarus with a dropkick. Bear Bronson broke up a pin attempt, and he delivered forearms to BDE and Swann. Williams hit a suicide dive on Bronson and Brian Myers. BDE and Swann hit a double dropkick on Sinner and Saint. They then landed a dive on the field, but Dutch of The Righteous got the final save with a cannonball to the outside.

Vincent hit a sliding flatliner on BDE for a near fall. Bronson was tagged in, and he planted Vincent with a choke bomb. A picture-in-picture shot showed The Hardys’ watching the match backstage. The System went for a double suplex on Vincent, but they got countered by a double neckbreaker.

Williams went high-risk, but Swann cut him off and landed a hurricanrana. Sinner and Saint had some high-paced double-team moves on Swann, ending with a brainbuster from Williams. BDE was tagged in, and he landed a falcon arrow on Williams.

BDE went for the Clip Cutter, but he was caught. Both BDE and Williams landed simultaneous clotheslines. Bronson was the legal man, and he hit a driver on BDE to score the win for The System.

Rosemary Wants to “Make Things Right”

A vignette for Rosemary played. She questioned where things have gone wrong for her. She reflected on Decay’s demise. She said there’s still time to make things right.

Moose Gives The System a Fact of Life

Moose and Alisha Edwards made their way out. Moose said what makes him angry is that The System claims they’re family. He pointed out his former Atlanta Falcons teammates, who were in the crowd. Moose said that’s what a real family looked like. He then told John Abraham that he will one day make it to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Moose announced that starting with Cedric Alexander next week, he will take out every member of The System. His match against Alexander will be an Atlanta street fight. He then said he’ll remind fans that Brian Myers was once Edge’s “b*tch.”

Alisha Edwards grabbed the mic before Moose talked about Eddie Edwards. Alisha said she doesn’t even recognize her own husband. She vowed to stand by Moose as he dismantles The System one by one. Moose vowed to send The System out of TNA Wrestling, and that’s not a promise. It’s a “fact of life.”

Order 4 Makes New Enemies

BDE was being checked backstage when he was encouraged by Rich Swann. BDE took blame for causing the loss, but Swann said he proved he belongs in TNA. Swann said it’s not the losses that matter, it’s how you respond to them. Trey Miguel gave more encouragement before Order 4 intervened. Jada Stone and Tasha Steelz nearly brawled before cooler heads prevailed. John Skyler revealed Mustafa Ali will return next week.

Mara Sade vs. Elayna Black

Elayna Black chopped Mara Sade in the corner. Sade was taken down by a shoulder tackle. Black was hit with a dropkick, and she rolled to the outside. Sade delivered a baseball slide, but Black tripped her on the ring apron.

Sade fired up with a couple of clotheslines. She then caught Black in a slingblade. Sade hit a springboard crossbody for a near fall. Black was dropkicked out of the ring. Sade followed up with a dive.

Back in the ring, Black was hit with a missile dropkick. Sade was popped by an enzuigiri, followed by a Canadian Destroyer. Black dropped Sade with a flying knee. She grabbed a steel chair, but the referee disarmed her. As the referee was putting the chair away, Black wore brass knuckles and nailed Sade for the win.

AJ Francis and The Hometown Man Brawl

AJ Francis cut a promo backstage. He loosely took credit for running Mance Warner and Steph de Lander out of TNA. He ripped the city of Atlanta before The Hometown Man got in his face, and the two brawled.

AJ Francis Interrupts ‘The King’s Speech’

Frankie Kazarian was in the ring for “The King’s Speech.” Kazarian’s guest was Elijah. The former TNA World Champion said Elijah’s win over Mustafa Ali was an instant classic. Kazarian asked Elijah to talk about the match in front of the “marks” in Atlanta. Elijah refused to talk into the mic that Kazarian was holding.

Kazarian said he’d rather walk on glass than walk with Elijah. He mentioned that Elijah has never won a title in TNA. Elijah said when he closed the casket on Ali, he also closed the book on their feud. Kazarian got in Elijah’s face before AJ Francis and The Hometown Man brawled on the stage. Francis tossed The Hometown Man into the crowd with Down Payment.

Eric Young Targets Leon Slater

Eric Young was backstage, and he said he hopes Leon Slater wins his X Division Championship match. He then knocked the cameraperson down before walking off.

Rosemary Signs TNA Contract Extension

Carlos Silva was speaking to Tommy Dreamer. Suddenly, Dreamer turned into Rosemary, who delivered her contract in person. Silva said he sent the contract through email. Silva signed the deal with a special pen that Rosemary presented.

Leon Slater (c) vs. Nic Nemeth w/Ryan Nemeth – for the TNA X Division Championship

Nic Nemeth looked for an early rollup on Leon Slater, but he could only get a two-count. The champion chopped the challenger. Slater landed a handspring back elbow before diving on Nic outside of the ring. When Slater tried returning to the ring, Ryan grabbed his leg. This allowed Nic to hit a Famouser for a near fall.

Slater went for a Swanton 450, but Nic avoided it. The challenger looked for another Famouser, but Slater caught him and landed the Styles Clash. Slater then went for the 450 Swanton, but Nic got his knees up. The challenger nearly scored a pin.

Slater got caught in a sleeper hold, but he got out of it with a pin attempt. Nic reapplied the hold and was dumped to the mat. Ryan got on the apron, and he was kicked for his efforts. Slater ran into a superkick, but he avoided the three-count. The champion hit a twisting superplex and followed up with the Swanton 450 for the victory.

Eric Young Attacks Leon Slater

After the match, Eric Young ambushed Slater. He then delivered a piledriver outside of the ring. Young snatched the TNA X Division Championship from Carlos Silva and posed with the title.

Mike Santana vs. Steve Maclin is Official 

TNA World Champion Mike Santana was in the ring to close out TNA “iMPACT.” Santana said Steve Maclin failed to take accountability for his attack on Tom Hannifan last week. Santana mentioned going to bat for Maclin, but he can’t save everybody. He vowed to hand Maclin an “a%s whooping.”

Santana requested that Maclin be reinstated. Daria Rae made her way out and said she agrees that Maclin should be reinstated, and she made it official. Santino Marella then made his entrance. Marella informed Rae that a date has already been approved for Santana vs. Maclin, and it’ll be at TNA “Sacrifice” for the TNA World Championship on March 27.
