Ryan Garcia is one of the most exciting fighters on the boxing scene today. The 24-year-old Californian has boxed in the super featherweight, lightweight, and light welterweight divisions up to this point. He currently holds a record of 23 wins and one loss. 19 of his wins have been by knockout. Known for his fast punching combinations, there is always a chance that “The Flash” will knock opponents down and out during his bouts.
Here is a list of five of Garcia’s best knockouts up to this point in his career for your reading pleasure.
5 – Romero Duno, November 2, 2019, MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas
Ryan Garcia wasn’t messing around in this fight, which was for two secondary titles in the lightweight division. Duno, from the Philippines, entered the bout with a 21-1 record and had never been stopped. This fact was about to be altered, and quickly. At the midway point of the opening round, Garcia unleashed a combination of lightning punches. A right hand connected with Duno’s head, and he hit the Las Vegas canvas. An attempt to get up only got as far as his knees. As referee Tony Weeks waved off the contest, Duno was left crawling around on the mat like a baby. It was a glimpse of Garcia’s speed mixed with devastating power.
4 – Francisco Fonseca, February 14, 2020, Honda Center, Anaheim, CA
Hot on the heels of dispatching Duno early, Garcia repeated the feat three months later. Francisco Fonseca, who held a 25-2-2 record at the time and had only been stopped by Gervonta Davis, was shown no love by Garcia on Valentine’s Day. This time, it was a counter left hook as Fonseca looked to throw an attacking punch of his own. Garcia connected perfectly to leave Fonseca flat on his back in the middle of the ring. Referee Raul Caiz Sr. didn’t even bother starting the count – he waved the fight off immediately with Fonseca badly hurt.
3 – Braulio Rodriguez, December 15, 2018, Madison Square Garden, New York
This was Garcia’s first career appearance at boxing’s most famous venue. He appeared on a star-studded card featuring Katie Taylor and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Dangerous punching Rodriguez brought an awkward style to the ring and had to be respected. It would take Garcia a few rounds to work out how to solve the puzzle.
The fight ended in round five. By this time, Garcia had established himself as a far better boxer. Garcia hurt Rodriguez with a right hand, and with the hurt boxer pinned on the ropes, Garcia closed the show in front of an appreciative New York crowd with a right-hand-left hook combo, which sent Rodrigues through the ropes. The beaten fighter had no chance of rising before referee Ron Lipton counted to ten.
2 – Javier Fortuna, July 16, 2022, Crypto.com Arena, Los Angeles
This was the second fight for Garcia after he took a 15-month break from boxing to recover from some mental health issues. Fortuna, 37-3-1 entering the contest, had only been stopped once previously. On returning to box in his city, Garcia demolished Fortuna. Fortuna had been down in round four off a body shot and again in round five via the same method before Garcia sent his hometown fans home happy in round six.
A combination upstairs concluded with a left hook, which landed on Fortuna’s head. He went down, spat his mouthguard out, and, having suffered enough punishment, made no attempt to beat referee Jerry Cantu’s count.
1 – Luke Campbell, January 2, 2021, American Airlines Center, Dallas, TX
Happy New Year! 2012 Olympic gold medalist Luke Campbell is probably still the best win on Garcia’s record. Garcia had to overcome being knocked down in the second round of this contest before he got the better of his English opponent in this lightweight interim world title fight. Garcia recovered, and the end came in round seven when Garcia connected with a vicious left hook, which landed on Campbell’s liver.
Campbell tried valiantly to get up but couldn’t get up before referee Laurence Cole reached the count of ten. It was a showcase KO from Ryan Garcia, which perfectly demonstrated how dangerous his left hook to the body is.
