The big junior middleweight unification fight between WBO champion Xander Zayas (22-0, 13 KOs) and WBA champion Abass Barao (17-1, 9 KOs) on January 31 now has a streaming home, as announced by Top Rank on Wednesday.
The Zayas-Baraou fight will be available to stream for free on the Top Rank Classics FAST Channel in the U.S., with no international distribution announced as of yet. It’s been six months since Top Rank’s deal with ESPN came to a close, and since then, their fighters have appeared on other promoters’ cards or on the Top Rank FAST Channel. One of their premier talents, Zayas, is fighting in the biggest fight of his career, and not on a network or a widely distributed streaming company raises concerns about what the future holds for Top Rank.
The broadcast will begin at 5:30 p.m ET/ 2:30 p.m. PT with the main event set to take place approximately at 10 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. PT. Timing will be critical for the main event, as it falls on the same night as Teofimo Lopez’s fight against Shakur Stevenson at Madison Square Garden in New York City, which is a much bigger fight. Ideally, Top Rank should aim to get Zayas-Baraou done before the main event in NYC.
