If Turki Alalshikh has his way, a third Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury showdown might just become a reality.
In a few days, ‘The Gypsy King’ Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) will test his mettle once again, against the Ukrainian pugilistic machine Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) during their rematch at Riyadh Season’s Reignited. As the countdown to their second fight ticks away, Alalshikh and Fury seem poised to script a heavyweight trilogy for the ages.
With barely days remaining for the fight, Alalshikh jumped on a rather intriguing conference call with Fury and Usyk. “You’re ready. You’re owe me one rabbit [referring to Usyk],” His Excellency told Fury, who was initially the only attendee on the call. “One rabbit in the kitchen.”
With Fury agreeing to give him “one cooked rabbit”, Alalshikh quickly added Usyk to the call and let’s just say that the cauldron of drama was set alight. Alalshikh certainly made no attempt to mince his words, greeting Usyk with the word “freak” as soon as he popped on the screen. “We are ready for you, there is space in our kitchen for one rabbit more,” he said. “You are destroying my map. I want the third fight [Fury vs. Usyk]. I want trilogy. I want a third fight.”
Usyk was quick to disagree, revealing his motive to decimate Fury in their upcoming fight and destroy any notion of a third fight. Fury, on the other hand, was quick to push for the third fight. Alalshikh, however, also made it a point to remind Fury to rectify the mistakes that he made in the first fight. While also adding a, not so subtle, advice of “no dancing anymore”.
“No dancing anymore,” Fury said in response. “I can’t wait. December 21st is my time. The belts are coming back home, and there will be a trilogy, an epic trilogy in 2025.” Usyk is certain that the trilogy will not take place but Alalshikh only has one response, “Tyson, you owe me. Deliver the job.”
“I’m Only Doing It For The Money”
While the rematch will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of Fury’s career, he is not fighting Usyk to add to his ‘legacy’. Calling his kids his legacy, Fury mentioned that caring and providing for his family is what means the most to him and added that he is only looking for those fights that come with sizeable monetary perks.
“I’m only doing it for the money, obviously. All prize-fighters, if they tell the truth, do it for the money. I don’t want to work for f**k all. I want to earn as much as I can get,” he said, “I want the easiest fights possible for the largest amounts of money. I don’t want the toughest fights possible for the least amount.”
