Vergil Ortiz Jr vs Erickson Lubin Fight Results: Ortiz Destroys Lubin Via 2nd Round KO (Video)

If there were any doubts about Vergil Ortiz’s star potential, they were put to rest Saturday night at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, TX, broadcast live on DAZN. Ortiz (24-0, 22 KOs) made quick work of Erickson Lubin (27-3, 18 KOs), knocking him out in the second round of their WBC interim junior middleweight title fight.

After the fight, Ortiz was asked about his next opponent and he didn’t hesitate, saying Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis. Ortiz said, “This is the fight that has to happen.” Ortiz called Ennis over as they exchanged words and faced each other, building anticipation for a potential showdown between the two talented, young fighters. The crowd went wild, and it’s the biggest fight that can be made in the U.S.

In the opening round, Lubin was using angles and good movement while throwing the right jab, while Ortiz kept cutting off the ring effectively and gauging his distance with the left jab. Towards the end of the round, Ortiz landed a flurry of punches that caught Lubin’s attention.

Ortiz must have seen something in the first round because, in the second, he was much more aggressive and had Lubin on the ropes. When there, Ortiz landed four straight right hooks and then followed up with two consecutive left hooks that knocked Lubin out while he was still standing. The referee saw Lubin’s eyes and quickly stepped in before he suffered any more damage. Ortiz scored the second-round knockout, but more importantly, he raised the anticipation for the Ennis fights to levels higher than before.
