WBO President Gustavo Olivieri, Esq., will be contacting WBO interim junior middleweight champion Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) about his future after talks for a super fight with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) reportedly fell apart.

Speaking exclusively to FightsATW, Olivieri found out about the Canelo-Crawford fight being off for now the same way the fans did on Wednesday night via The Ring Magazine’s social media accounts.
“I don’t know what happened (Canelo-Crawford falling apart). I’m going to make some calls. I have to talk to Terence (Crawford) and his team; we are very close. Terence is WBO family and we have to see what he wants to do because he’s entitled to get a chance to hear him out. ‘What do you want to do champ? We’ll accommodate your needs as within what my rules allow me to do so.’
“You know I have to tell him, ‘Hey champ, we have to do something with the interim (title) because I can’t have two champions. If he says, ‘I’ll fight Fundora, then we’ll order the fight and terminate the interim champion status.”
There is a rumored fight slated for March 22 in Las Vegas, NV, between WBO junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora and Chordale Booker after the talks for Fundora vs. Errol Spence never made it across the finish line. Olivieri confirmed that this fight was indeed signed for March and that the winner would then be ordered to fight Crawford within 180 days if he decided to go that route.
Crawford has a decision to make if the Canelo fight will not happen altogether this year. Does he pursue the WBO title in a quest to become a three-time undisputed champion? Does he move up and pursue titles or the biggest fights possible at 160 or 168? There will be plenty for the WBO President and Crawford to discuss in the coming days.
