What Happened To Omos?

Omos is WWE’s “Nigerian Giant,” but he sure has been appearing less frequently. Under Vince McMahon’s watch, Omos was prominently featured on WWE programming. He was in major programs with Bobby Lashley and AJ Styles. He even had a WrestleMania match with Brock Lesnar in 2023.

It’s no secret that things have changed with how Omos is used on television since WWE chief content officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque gained more control of the creative direction of programming. In 2022, Omos had 72 matches. That number has significantly decreased to 26 in 2023 as of November 5, per CageMatch.net.

McMahon has long used “giants” on his roster for big feuds, and Omos was no exception. Under “Triple H’s” creative direction, Omos has mostly been used for house shows. His last premium live event match was a Slim Jim Battle Royale at SummerSlam back in August.

There has been much speculation on why Levesque hasn’t used Omos as much as Vince McMahon did. Some believe Levesque is saving Omos for special occasions, others feel the chief content officer simply isn’t as high on the towering athletes as McMahon was.

The real reason for Omos’ decrease in airtime in 2023 is unknown at this time. It’ll be interesting to see if the trend continues next year or if WWE will find some more intriguing feuds for him to be a part of. If nothing else, fans are surely counting on the “Nigerian Giant” to compete in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royale at WrestleMania 40 in 2024.
