Will Ospreay & Bryan Danielson Made Magic At AEW Dynasty

The AEW Dynasty card in St. Louis, MO streamed on PPV.com began with a hot crowd. The crowd was into the matches as the adrenaline died down a bit, but not as much as when Will Ospreay faced Bryan Danielson. It was almost as if the crowd knew that magic was about to happen, but little did they know that a match of the year candidate was about to take place.

Before settling into the match, the place was going nuts as Ospreay grilled Danielson from across the ring. Both men knew that this was the moment everyone was waiting for. How Danielson hadn’t faced Ospreay one-on-one throughout the Indies is beyond me, but on Sunday night, they finally made it happen.

The match was filled with ebbs and flows, and if you wanted high-flying spots, you got them as well as technical wrestling, and the psychology of the match was off the charts. It wasn’t a predictable flow either, as both men had long moments but also short ones. The momentum shifted so often that you couldn’t believe what you were watching. You almost didn’t want the match to be over, which is all a sign of not only a five-star match but also one that would be a candidate for the match of the year.

Things got scary towards the end as Ospreay threw Danielson in a reverse backdrop of sorts, and he landed on his shoulder/collarbone. Danielson looked hurt for real, and Ospreay would not notice as he executed his finisher and pinned him. Afterward, Ospreay looked visibly concerned as Danielson appeared to be in excruciating pain. The doctors would come out and put Danielson on a stretcher as the quiet crowd seemed genuinely concerned.

Everyone in wrestling was trying to figure out whether it was a work or an actual injury, and the fact that you had to ask gives you every indication of how good that match was last night. Reports coming from Fightful are that it was a work and that Danielson is fine. The match was incredible, and after Ospreay did that promo calling out WWE & Triple H, he wrestled with a chip on his shoulder but needed the right dance partner, and Danielson was the perfect guy for it. It was a match made in heaven, and for those who didn’t know, this is why Ospreay is considered one of the best in wrestling right now.
