Terence Crawford (42-0, 31 KOs) announced his retirement in December 2025, just three months after the biggest victory of his career, a dominant decision over Canelo Álvarez (63-3-2, 39 KOs). Fans have since pondered if they’d get to see ‘Bud’ grace the ring once again; his coach, Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre, might just have the answer.

Talking at the Last Stand Podcast, McIntyre shed light on Crawford’s presence at Lester Martinez’s training camp.

“Bud loves the environment that he created. The environment we created together as a team,” he said. “He knew we were in camp, so he just wanted to come out and get some work in to see where he is at and to have some fun with Lester. He brought Lester under his wing on his undercard, and Lester jumped to the top of the charts after that.”

Crawford’s retirement was less about him suddenly being unable to compete and more about choosing to leave boxing on his own terms after reaching what he considered the ultimate destination. The biggest factor was age and the feeling that he had nothing left to prove. Crawford is 38 and had been boxing since he was seven.

He subsequently explained that 38 is old in boxing and that, at this point in his career, continuing to fight could actually diminish rather than enhance the legacy he had spent decades building. His retirement message was essentially that he wasn’t walking away because he had lost his ability or desire to fight; he was walking away because he had won the larger battle.

But does McIntyre feel like Crawford will actually make a comeback?

“Bud is done; he has said he is done, and I respect his decision. I want him to be done because he had nothing left to prove in the sport,” he said.

“Might Be Enticing”

Hall of Famer Tim Bradley, however, believes that Jaron Ennis might be able to bring Crawford out of retirement, albeit with a clause.

“Boots ain’t got anything that Crawford needs, nothing at all. Well, Boots, if you go up to 160 and you wipe out the whole division and you win all the straps there, maybe that might be enticing,” he said.
