Will the Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk Showdown Actually Take Place?

The highly anticipated Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk fight is on the cards once again, with a ‘confirmed’ date of February 17, 2023. Billed as ‘Ring of Fire,’ this heavyweight matchup has again excited the fans. Fury vs Usyk has been the talk of the town ever since it was first announced in early 2023. However, it is also a matchup that has been canceled multiple times due to disagreements. And the question remains: will boxing aficionados get to witness these Titans collide?

Their recent press conference saw a fiery Fury warn Usyk of the potential outcome of their February 17 showdown.“I already relieved one Ukrainian of all the belts, and I’ll relieve that idiot of all the belts I gave him, including that Ring Magazine. I only vacated last year so I could win it back three times, sausage,” he said.

While these words have undoubtedly gotten the fans pumped, this fight has been in the making for over a year. The duo was initially set to fight on April 29, 2023. But the fight did not materialize as the boxers could not agree on the split.

As Fury prepared to face former UFC champion Francis Ngannou in October, it was announced that he had also signed a deal with Usyk. ‘The Cat,’ on the other hand, was unsure as to why Fury would choose to fight Ngannou before him. “Doesn’t it seem strange that instead of choosing a top-10 guy, he is choosing someone who has never boxed before?”he said in an interview with Sky Sports.

Meanwhile, Fury vs Usyk hit the road’s end once again when Fury demanded that the fight be postponed. With the new tentative date announced, fans remain in disbelief as they have begun to lose hope in the matchup. One X user even wrote that he’d believe it only “when they both step into the ring.”

George Groves’ statement has fans worried

Many fans were left concerned after former middleweight champion George Groves’ recent statement about Fury’s impending retirement.

“He might retire. It might be the last time we see him. It’s not a dig. It makes no sense that he has a life and death fight with a cage fighter, who has been boxing for weeks, and that he had to get up off of the floor to win,” Groves told Boxing King Media after the Ngannou fight.

He also mentioned that it would hurt Fury more to be beaten by Usyk than to be tarnished for not fighting him. Fury vs Usyk is set in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Moreover, Usyk’s WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, IBO, and The Ring titles will be on the line during the fight.
