Lightweight contender William Zepeda (30-0, 26 KOs) showed why he is one of the most avoided fighters in the division. Zepeda gave Maxi Hughes (26-7-2, 5 KOs) a systematic beatdown, leading Hughes’ corner to stop the fight at the end of the fourth round. Zepeda is now the WBA & IBF mandatory challenger for those lightweight titles.

Hughes dictated the pace as his right jab landed consistently through the first round. It took some time for Zepeda to get going but when he did, his punches had more effect than Hughes’. Zepeda started to suffocate Hughes with his volume punching in the second round, and he couldn’t get away from Zepeda’s pressure and body punches.
In the third round, Zepeda was relentless, and Hughes could not keep him away. This was the same in the fourth round as Hughes’ corner threatened to throw in the towel. At the end of the fourth round, Hughes’ corner looked into their fighter’s eyes and decided to pull the plug. Zepeda continues to be a human buzzsaw, and whoever he faces for the title will be must-see TV.

Floyd Schofield (17-0, 12 KOs) earned a fifth-round disqualification victory over Esteuri Suero (13-2, 10 KOs). After being warned numerous times for fouls, Suero hits Schofield with two consecutive low blows, which forces the referee to disqualify him.
Schofield landed the double left hook that hurt Suero badly in the first round. Suero was hanging on for dear life, and a headbutt occurred where Schofield was cut over his right eye. Schofield was lunging in with his shots, which mainly landed, but he seemed frustrated throughout the second round. The referee stopped the action toward the end of the second round to take a point away from Suero, who kept using dirty tactics.

Schofield was forcing his offense in the third round as frustration continued to creep in. Suero was using every trick in the book to avoid Schofield, and in the fourth round, Schofield landed a left hook that rocked Suero but was saved by the round. The fifth round was filled with Suero holding, and he landed those two low blows, which ended the fight. Schofield doesn’t get a signature win, and this fight did nothing for him.
Eric Priest Goes the Distance with Jose Sanchez In A Tough Fight
Eric Priest (13-0, 8 KOs) scored a unanimous decision over Jose Sanchez (21-5-1, 12 KOs). The judges saw this one 100-90, 99-91, and 99-91, all for Priest, who was in a tough fight.

Priest started the fight with a left power jab to Sanchez’s head and stomach. One of those left jabs by Priest to Sanchez’s stomach stunned him, but he was able to recover. Priest dictated the action throughout the first round. The rest of the fight would be Priest controlling the action with his big right hands, but Sanchez was punching with him, which made things interesting in spots. Sanchez did a great job slowing Priest down with his body attack but it wasn’t enough for him to stop Priest or score a decision victory. Priest earned the decision victory but, more importantly, gained the much-needed experience of going ten rounds with a tough fighter.

Tristan Kalkreuth (13-1, 10 KOs) scored a one-punch second-round knockout over Marquice Weston (15-3-1, 8 KOs). In the first round, Weston started off taking the fight to Kalkreuth. It wasn’t until the end of the first round that Kalkreuth landed a straight right hand that rocked Weston. It was a jab fest in the second round until Kalkreuth landed a right uppercut, then a crushing left hook, which sent Weston down and out. It was an impressive knockout victory for “Sweet Tea” Tristan Kalkreuth.
Joel Iriarte Scores A Big TKO In Pro Debut

In his pro debut, 20-year-old Joel Iriarte (1-0, 1 KO) scores a second-round TKO over Bryan Carguacundo (3-6-2). The first punch of the fight was a straight right hand by Iriarte, and it hurt Carguacundo. Iriarte would land a right uppercut that would hurt Carguacundo again later in the first round. In the second round, Iriarte landed a hard right uppercut that rocked Carguacundo and prompted the referee to stop the fight.
