After the first knockdown, Mason (21-0, 18 KOs) landed a left hook but then pushed Bell down to the canvas. The referee didn’t even count and waved the fight off, giving Mason the knockout victory. After the fight, Mason was asked who he wants next, and he gave a general answer, saying anyone who wants to face him.
In the opening round, Mason started fast with his right jab as Bell waited to counter after each punch. Bell did land a short right hand, but it prompted Mason to apply even more pressure. Mason, behind the right jab, continued to throw and land hard combinations.
Things heated up in the second round as Mason landed hard left hands to Bell’s chest. Toward the end of the round, Bell landed clean straight right hands that forced Mason back throughout the round.
In the third round, Bell began to show why he was so confident during fight week. Bell landed multiple combinations, leading with his straight right hand. He also kept spinning Mason around, which didn’t allow Mason to land anything clean on Bell.

Bell’s counter right hand was the story of the fourth round, as every time Mason tried to jump in with the straight left, Bell would punch over it. Mason appeared confused and mentally stuck, throwing few punches. Bell continued to control the fight through the fifth round. He shifted his counters to left hooks, which landed as Mason was caught anticipating the right hand. Mason landed a few combinations, but Bell landed the cleaner, more effective punches.
Bell continued to dominate in the sixth round, as Mason had no answers to Bell’s offense. Mason came roaring back in the seventh round, landing a straight left hand that rocked Bell’s head back and forced Bell to hold afterward. Mason continued to press forward and land the straight left, forcing Bell to remain on the back foot.
In the eighth round, Mason began digging to Bell’s body, which opened up big shots for Mason to Bell’s head. It was another big round for Mason, who found his rhythm.

Mason kept digging at Bell’s body in the ninth round, which appeared to have zapped all the energy out of Bell. Mason was relentless with the body shots as Bell kept holding to avoid any more damage.
The 10th and 11th rounds were quiet for both fighters, as they appeared to have taken the rounds off. In the final round, Mason sprinted toward Bell and landed a series of left hooks that sent Bell down for the first knockdown of the fight. Bell beat the count but was met with flurries from Mason, which led to a drag down that was called a knockdown and prompted the referee to stop the fight.
Mason showed he could turn things up when needed most, which are the qualities you want to see in world champions.
