WBC featherweight champion Bruce “Shu-Shu” Carrington dominated in the co-main on Saturday night, scoring a unanimous decision over Rene Palacios (19-1-1, 10 KOs) on TNT Sports.

The three judges scored this fight 116-112, 117-111, and 118-110 for Carrington (18-0, 10 KOs), who escaped two separate threatening moments in the fight. During the in-ring post-fight interview, Carrington made it clear that unification is a priority for him and that he wants to face the other champions next.

It was a slow opening round in terms of punches thrown, as both fighters used many feints to gauge their distance. Carrington landed a few short right hands while Palacios moved more than he threw.

In the second round, Carrington began letting go of his left jab and keeping his distance from Palacios. On the inside, Carrington landed hard right uppercuts that forced Palacios to reset. Even though Palacios wasn’t doing much through the round, he was cutting the ring off and forcing some of the action.

Palacios picked up the pace in the third round as he exchanged uppercuts with Carrington. It was a much closer round than the previous two, but Carrington, with his combination punching, dictated the pace.

Rounds four through seven were all Carrington’s as Palacios just couldn’t find a way to get going. In the eighth, Palacios landed a right hook near the back of Carrington’s head as Carrington dipped down, sending him to the canvas. The referee did not call it a knockdown, but after seeing the replay, it was close. The referee ruled it a slip, which was a missed call.

Rounds nine and ten saw Carrington still in control, but in the 11th round, Palacios landed a hard left hook to the body that deflated Carrington and left him badly hurt. Palacios began to land heavy left and right hooks but ran out of time. Palacios attempted to put pressure on Carrington in the last round but couldn’t capitalize on what he had done the round prior.

Carrington earns a unanimous decision, and now the focus will be on which direction he goes in regarding a unification fight.
