There is one day left for Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (63-3-2, 39 KOs) to prove that he deserves the moniker of ‘pound-for-pound king’ as he battles it out for Christian Mbilli’s (29–0–1, 24 KOs) WBC title at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. According to International Boxing Hall of Famer Timothy Bradley, one clear winner emerges, and the answer is as bright as day.

As he sat down for the 20th episode of his Into the Storm show, Bradley was confident that Alvarez would win, but it sure wouldn’t be a quiet victory.

“Canelo by massacre. Canelo by massacre. That’s what I got. He might even stop him. Canelo is not gonna throw more punches than Mbilli, but his punches gonna be way more accurate, way more sound, way more placed than Mbilli,” he said.

Bradley’s brutal prediction stems largely from what he sees as a technical mismatch between the two fighters. While Mbilli is known for his relentless pressure and willingness to engage in exchanges, he believes those very qualities could play directly into Canelo’s hands. The former champion feels Mbilli leaves himself vulnerable defensively when coming forward, particularly when dipping his head and committing to combinations, creating openings for Canelo’s trademark counters, uppercuts and body shots. Bradley also stressed the importance of the latter controlling the centre of the ring rather than allowing himself to be backed against the ropes, where Mbilli’s aggression could become more dangerous.

In his assessment, Mbilli might throw more punches, but Canelo’s superior accuracy, timing and shot selection would make the difference. Essentially, Bradley believes the Mexican will punish Mbilli for every defensive mistake, turning the challenger’s forward pressure into an opportunity to inflict serious damage.

“As long as Canelo keep his back up off the ropes and keep the fight in the center of the ring,” he added.

“Available For Everything”

However, when he was recently on the panel of DAZN’s The Fight, Bradley raised concerns about how Mbilli’s constant movement and ability to take punishment might prove to be quite the challenge for Alvarez.

“Mbilli is going to be available for everything: uppercuts, body shots, left hooks. The activity of Mbilli can be bothersome, I’m not going to lie, and if Canelo punches him and can’t hurt him and can’t get his respect, Mbilli is in the fight,” he said. “I feel like Canelo will be sitting down and those shots and be softening him up a bit. Canelo might even take a few and catch a few and then land something big, hurt him and maybe even stop him late.”
