Charlie Sheehy is making the jump from a prospect to a contender with a new promoter.

Sheehy signed with Matchroom Boxing last month and returns Saturday, May 30, against Jaret Gonzalez Quiroz at the Fertitta Center in Houston.

Sheehy was nearly an Olympian. In 2020, when the pandemic hit, Sheehy was vying for a spot to represent the U.S. at lightweight, but it didn’t happen. Sheehy, 12-0 (7 KOs), made his pro debut in October 2021. He was signed to Top Rank Inc. a few months later, but by the end of 2024, he was looking for a promoter. The 27-year-old Sheehy had been so close to opportunities, yet they passed him by, until now.

“It is perfect timing,” Sheehy told FightsATW. “I started my career with Matchroom, and now I get to be a contender with them.”

He went from fighting often to waiting for a fight date.

“Last year challenged me a lot mentally,” Sheehy said. “A lot of long nights in the gym by myself, questioning if this is going to work.”

He fought twice in 2025, both broadcast on ProBox TV, and both ended in knockouts. In November, Sheehy of San Francisco stopped D’Angelo Keyes, widely considered one of his best performances as a pro. Before that, Sheehy stopped Cesar Juarez in March 2025. After that win, things went quiet again.

“That summer was tough for me mentally,” Sheehy said. “That was the hardest stage of my career, but I knew the call was going to come eventually.”

Quiroz, 19-2 (13 KOs), enters on a two-fight win streak. The 25-year-old Quiroz from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, lost to Joe Cordina. In a press release, Quiroz’s quotes caught Sheehy’s attention as he stated that Sheehy isn’t on his level.

“I did see something where he said I am not on his level and Joe Cordina’s level,” Sheehy said. “That has been on my mind since I saw that.”
