Sibrian will face Yesica Nery Plata on May 30 at the County Coliseum in El Paso, Texas.
Sibrian, 9-2 (4 KOs), is on a four-fight win streak entering the biggest fight of her career. Yet, she started 2025 at a career low. The 33-year-old Sibrian suffered back-to-back losses with her career in jeopardy. Sibrian, who came to the sport late, was now facing a daunting task of rebuilding in a sport that is unforgiving to fighters who suffer a defeat.
After a tune-up win in Mexico, Sibrian fought early last May on a Championing Mental Health card. The bout was significant, as it put her on a winning streak and allowed her to share aspects of her story stemming from her losses. In December, she would avenge her January loss to Gloria Munguilla, winning a majority decision.
Now, Sibrian gets a new chance. She made her debut on DAZN last year, but this year she hopes to vault into the category of contender after nearly being written off a year before.
“I get to share my story a bit more, and remind everybody that obstacles are opportunities,” Sibrian told FightsATW. “We have to go for it; it doesn’t matter your origin story, and I am a perfect example of that.”
Nery Plata, 30-3 (3 KOs), is a former titleholder who lost a majority decision to Lourdes Juarez in October. The 31-year-old from Mexico City, Mexico, Nery Plata, might be two years younger than Sibrian, but holds a wealth of professional experience. Nery Plata has gone 272 rounds as opposed to Sibrian’s 61. Nery Plata has also main-evented fights, whereas Sibrian is working toward that point.
“We have known about her, she is a former champ, and has been top of that weight class,” Sibrian. “It has always been on the list to get in front of all the greats, at 105 lbs and 108 lbs.”
Sibrian will be fighting for the first time on a Most Valuable Promotions card, one of the leading women’s boxing promotional entities. The bout isn’t just an opportunity; a win could propel her into the title picture as Juarez will face Yokasta Valle in a title unification on the same card.
“Just taking this fight in, being present for the job at hand, and enjoying it,” said Sibrian of Coachella, California. “It is my shot; I am not going to let the craziness or the noise get me out of focusing.”
