Dana White on Why Jake Paul Might End Up Fighting Clint Eastwood

The stage is set, and the spotlights are blazing, as the ‘Problem Child’ Jake Paul (9-1, 6 KOs) prepares to face the consequences of one of the possibly worst decisions of his life by fighting the ‘Baddest Man on The Planet’ Mike Tyson (50-6-2, 44 KOs). While Tyson is still a physical specimen at 57, the fact that he is fighting someone almost 31 years younger than him has undoubtedly raised a few eyebrows in the combat sports community. In fact, UFC president Dana White recently slammed Paul for choosing to fight “old men.”

White was a guest on a recent episode of ‘Pound 4 Pound’ hosted by UFC superstars Kamaru Usman (20-4, 9 KOs) and Henry Cejudo (16-4, 8 KOs). In conversation, he was asked about his thoughts on the upcoming Paul vs Tyson showdown. On the other hand, the UFC honcho wasted no time pointing out the age gap.

“I love Mike and I hate talking about it because he always gets mad at me when I talk about this stuff, but when the fight happens, he’ll be 58 years old,” he said. “I just saw this thing on the Internet yesterday, I reposted it where it says if he beats Mike Tyson, he’s going to fight Clint Eastwood next. Clint Eastwood’s 93 years old.”

Paul had previously fought the then-retired UFC legend Anderson Silva (34-11-1, 23 KOs). White stated that the last time Paul faced a known boxer closer to his age, Tommy Fury (10-0, 4 KOs) he had lost the fight. “What Jake wants is Jake wants to make money. The people that follow Jake Paul don’t buy Jake Paul’s fights, so Jake Paul has to fight people who can actually sell pay-per-views,” White said.

“Tyson is now really old”

White was not the member of the combat sports fraternity who expressed concerns about Tyson vs Paul. English boxer Dalton Smith (16-0, 12 KOs) recently discussed his fears regarding this potentially mismatched showdown. He even mentioned that he hoped that the fight was scripted.

“Money talks at the end of the day, if it makes money, it makes sense, as they say. But Tyson is now really old. We saw that against Roy Jones Jr in that exhibition,” Smith said in an interview with talkSport. “Paul is younger and fresher, so for me, it is not to my taste at all. I’d like to think it is scripted to be honest. It would be better if it was scripted, I’d hate to see Mike Tyson go in there and get knocked out by Jake Paul.”

However, Smith added that if Tyson had been in his prime, Paul would have stood no chance against the feared pugilistic maestro.
