The Craziest Things That Mike Tyson Owned

The Baddest Man on The Planet, ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson (50-6-1, 44 KOs), is undoubtedly one of the most iconic boxers of all time. During his prime, ‘Iron’ Mike was one of the highest-paid athletes of the era. These exorbitant purses, in turn, turned into some of the most outrageous purchases that the boxing world has ever seen.

Before declaring bankruptcy in 2003, Tyson had earned at least $430 million ($700 million adjusted for inflation) in purses and endorsements. His highest payday came in 2002 when he faced Lennox Lewis (41-2-1, 32 KOs) at The Pyramid in Memphis, Tennessee. Despite losing, Tyson raked in a whopping $103 million.

He is currently worth around $10 million.

While rolling in dough, he had no qualms in blowing through the money by throwing lavish parties and making exorbitant purchases.

24 Karat Gold Bathtub

There is no denying that Tyson bathed in gold, literally. He gifted his ex-wife Robin Givens a 24-karat gold bathtub, which was located at one of his many mansions. It was said to cost a jaw-dropping $2 million.

However, it looks like this golden dip didn’t help his marriage, as the couple soon divorced in 1989.

Bengal Tigers

Pictures of prime Tyson are incomplete without his beloved tigers. One of the champ’s most iconic purchases was his three Bengal tigers, which cost him about $70,000 each. In an interview with Joe Rogan, he revealed that his car dealer informed him that he could exchange his cars for horses. However, he thought it would be cooler if he got tiger cubs instead.

Meanwhile, it is said that he spent $750,000 a year on their care and maintenance, including $125,000 a year to an animal trainer ‘to be on call.’

Pigeons

Tyson’s love for pigeons is unparalleled. The birds were a source of solace for the champ during his rough childhood. Tyson even revealed that he knocked out a person for the first time because they killed one of his pigeons.

He spent over $400,000 on his brood of pigeons.

“Guerilla Warfare”

The champ’s entourage has remained as iconic as Tyson himself. One of the most interesting members of his entourage was a man who would wear army fatigues and go around with Tyson at press conferences just to shout, “guerilla warfare.”

Tyson reportedly paid the man an astonishing $300,000 a year for his services.

Car Collection

Tyson was crazy about cars, cemented by the fact that he spent well over $5 million on automobiles for himself and his friends.

One of the rarest cars in his collection was a 1997 Bentley Continental T, which set him back by around $500,000. He also owned a fleet of Rolls Royce cars, including the Corniche and the Silver Spur.
