David Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) wants Mike Tyson (50-7-2, 44 KOs) to hang up his boxing gloves.
‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ recently suffered a devastating loss against ‘The Problem Child’ Jake Paul (11-1, 7 KOs). While the fight has left many members of the boxing fraternity and fans disappointed. Benavidez believes that while Tyson’s name will always remain synonymous with the sport of boxing, it is time for him to retire from the sport and save his legacy.
Benavidez was recently at the press conference for his upcoming fight against David Morrell, where he was interviewed by Fight Hub TV. This was when the conversation shifted to the Tyson vs. Paul showdown. “To be honest with you, I think it was a good fight, good participation, but I don’t want to see Mike Tyson fight ever again,”he said. “I hope he hangs up his gloves. I think it was a good show, but it’s time to retire.”
He further mentioned that while Tyson might have taken up the fight for money, he might have ruined his legacy by doing so. However, he added that it was Tyson’s decision and that he’s his “own man.”
“If Jake had tried to hurt Mike Tyson, maybe I would challenge him, but Tyson went in there, got a good paycheck, he deserves it,” he said. “A 60-year-old Mike Tyson is a different Mike Tyson.”
“He Spared Your Life”
Many individuals who are connected to boxing feel that Tyson went easy on Paul. In fact, ‘Rocky Balboa’ himself mentioned that Paul should be grateful that Tyson stood his business and did not bring the beast of his prime out.
“Business is business. SOMETIMES you have to do hard things and sacrifice for the sake of helping your FAMILY,”Sylvester Stallone wrote on Instagram. “Please, Jake, be grateful, HE SPARED YOUR LIFE! Trust me. Keep punching Mike. There will never be a MAN like you, a GLADIATOR like you, and a SOUL like you! Keep punching champion of champions!”
