Erislandy Lara vs Tim Tszyu Has Been Signed, Event Details Will Soon Follow, Says No Limit Boxing

After telling FightsATW in September that a fight was being negotiated and that it was the one he wanted, No Limit Boxing announced late Monday night that a fight has been signed between their fighter, Tim Tszyu (28-3, 18 KOs), and WBA middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (32-3-3, 19 KOs).

As mentioned, FightsATW spoke to Tszyu last month, and he discussed the possibility of facing Lara for the WBA middleweight title. “I’ve been watching Lara for years and years,” he said. “Stylistically, he’s very hard to beat. He moves around. He’s just a very, very good boxer. It’s an intriguing matchup.”

No Limit Boxing, in its press release, stated, “The fight is official and confirmed. Date, city, venue, ticketing and broadcast details will be announced in the coming weeks.”

It’s an intriguing matchup, as Lara is closer to the end of his career than his prime, but he’s still a very difficult opponent to deal with, as Danny Garcia found out in September 2024. Lara had one other fight after that in December 2025 against Johan Gonzalez, but he hasn’t gloved up since.

Tszyu has never been a fighter to shy away from a challenge, and he is motivated by the opportunity to compete for another world title. Here is what he had to say in the same press release:

“I’ve carried the Tszyu name my whole life. It’s a privilege, and it’s pressure. This is my chance to write a chapter that belongs to me, and it’s the legacy-defining moment of my career.”

“Lara is a great champion. He’s slick, he’s clever, and stylistically he’s very hard. He’ll want to turn this into a chess match, but I’ve never taken the easy road. I want the man with the belt, and I’ll drag him into a fight he doesn’t want.”

With the year ending in a little over 60 days, this fight will likely land in the first quarter of 2027. This is an intriguing fight that will either crown a new champion or further elevate a current one.
