Exclusive: Split-T Boss Confirms Teofimo Lopez’s Change of Management

Teofimo Lopez is continuing to make waves on social media as he seeks to secure his first fight of 2025.

On Monday, the 27-year-old fighter, who is signed to promoter Top Rank, posted himself in a photo with managers Keith Connolly and Mike Borao. All were smiling. The caption read “official” and the only tag was #boxing.

FightsATW contacted Lopez‘s manager of record, David McWater. The head of Split-T Boxing verified that Lopez has parted ways with his company.

“He has a new team,” McWater told me. “Was it a buyout or the contract was done? Little of both.”

McWater Confirms End of Teofimo Lopez Split-T Run

The NYC businessman, who came from restaurants, had a stellar ride with the brash Lopez, who he signed despite not having a big name in the game. “We spent ten years together, that’s a long time. He’s a wonderful kid and I had a blast. Everything ends at some point.” McWater, age 58, is still in the mix, he’s not shuffling off stage. “Brandun Lee, Tiger Johnson, seven female world champs, a big list still.”

Connolly Works Lots With Eddie Hearn

Connolly is seen as a top tier helmer. He got big money for Danny Jacobs at the end of HBO’s campaign. He has Edgar Berlanga in the fold, as well as Richardson Hitchins, so Connolly can boast one of the top squads of talent.

So, what does new management mean for Lopez? Something of a fresh start, maybe. Connolly does work with Matchroom more so than Top Rank, maybe that factors in. I messaged Bob Arum, to see if he had any news on what’s next for Lopez. I will insert any update.

My guess would be that a youngish gun faceoff is to come, Lopez versus Hitchins, a 27-year-old Brooklyner with a 19-0 record, and the IBF super lightweight strap in his possession. That fight makes sense for NYC, I think.
