‘I Should Do the Job I Need To Do’: Tyson Fury Readies Himself for Usyk Rematch

Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) has a ‘job’ to do: beat unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs).

‘The Gypsy King’ is expected to meet the former undisputed world heavyweight champion in a potentially sensational rematch at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in December. With only a few months remaining for the showdown, Fury plans to show much less complacency and let his skills do the talking.

Fury and Usyk recently came face to face in London to promote their fight. ‘The Cat’ Usyk, dressed like the video game character Hitman, was somewhat reserved with his statements. Fury, however, had a few words to say about the upcoming rematch. He mentioned that this was the first time in four and a half years (since the Wilder fight) that he’s coming in as an underdog for the fight, but he’s looking forward to a fantastic fight regardless.

“Oleksandr won the fight fair and square. I’m just looking to put on a great fight again. It was very close last time; he got it by a point. A little bit more focus, a little bit more lack of complacency, and I should do the job I need to do. Nothing drastic has to change—a bit more of the same. A bit more focus, like I say, and I will be victorious,” he said.

Fury added that his loss was a lesson and that, as a boxer, he will continue to learn throughout his life. “We can only do the best we can do as men. And what we know how to do best is go in there and knock fuck out of each other in a fight and put on a show for the paying customer,” he said.

“Only My Regime”

Usyk, on the other hand, particularly caused a furore with his outfit for the presser and staying true to the character he dressed up as, he remained relatively silent throughout the proceedings. However, when asked about his motivation to keep grinding, he certainly had an interesting answer. “What is my motivation? I don’t have motivation. Only my regime. Only my concentration. This is my motivation. Enough,” he said.
