Tyson Fury has been in the ring with some of the best the current heavyweight division offers. While none of them have been able to capture the “0” away from Fury, they have, along the way, Fury has created feuds that have transcended the sport in the heavyweight division.
Here are 5 of some of the Gypsy King’s greatest feuds.
Derek Chisora
Longtime rival and sparring partner Derek Chisora got their trilogy started in 2011, but many remember their second fight Fury won again by a unanimous decision in 2014. They capped off the trilogy in what would be Chisora’s last fight in 2022, which Fury won by 10th-round stoppage.
Deontay Wilder
The most significant heavyweight trilogy in recent memory featured WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder got started in 2018. Their first fight ended in a controversial split draw and a ground swell to get the second fight as soon as possible. That would only happen in February 2020, when Fury won in the seventh-round knockout. Their third fight would occur after legal disputes and delays in 2021 in what many have claimed to be the year’s fight, with Fury winning by 11th-round stoppage.
John McDermott
One of Fury’s early fights was against John McDermott in 2009. Fury won the first fight, but the British Boxing Board of Control ordered a rematch due to the poor decision by referee Terry O’Connor. That took place in 2010, resolving any doubt with a 9th-round stoppage.
Wladimir Klitschko
Unified champion Wladimir Klitschko met Fury in a match years in the making on November 2015. Fury won the belts from Klitschko in what he called “a dream come true” afterward by unanimous decision in Germany. While the fight didn’t keep the attention of most, it did give Fury his 1st world title reign, ending a decade-long dominance of the Klitschko family,
Dillian Whyte
Dillian Whyte was the next mandatory challenger after winning the WBC title from Deontay Wilder in 2021. What was reportedly the highest successful purse bid in boxing history at $41,025,000 led to 94,000 fans at Wembley Stadium to see Fury win by sixth-round stoppage.
