Anthony Joshua on Fury vs. Usyk: ‘Doesn’t Affect My Life’

Boxing superstar Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) is all set to test his mettle in a long-awaited undisputed showdown against Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs). Meanwhile, Anthony Joshua (27-3, 24 KOs), who has been chasing a fight against the winner of Fury vs Usyk, is gearing up for a March faceoff against former UFC behemoth Francis Ngannou (17-3, 12 KOs). However, in a surprising turn of events, Joshua revealed that the outcome of the undisputed fight does not affect him anymore.

Joshua will fight Ngannou on March 8 in Saudi Arabia. Moreover, the victor will potentially get a chance to face the winner of the Fury vs Usyk fight.

Will Anthony Joshua vs. Francis Ngannou go the distance on March 8?

In a conversation with Sky Sports, Joshua stated that the highly anticipated undisputed showdown will be an interesting fight and that he believes that Usyk might be the one who emerges victorious.

“I’m not really bothered. I just want them both to be healthy and leave the ring. It’s a tough game. So that’s all I can ask for, that they leave the ring healthy,” he said.

Joshua then went on to make a rather surprising statement. “In terms of how it goes, it doesn’t affect my life, in a way. I’m not like one of those fans that starts crying because someone won or lost. It is what it is. Tomorrow comes around. Good luck to both of them,” he said.

Joshua also added that he prefers to face Fury as it is a “better fight for the fans.”

‘Zero credibility to AJ’s resume’

The Joshua vs Ngannou fight announcement has certainly gotten the boxing world talking. However, a few expressed their lack of confidence in the matchup.

Three-time world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis (41-2-1, 32 KOs) believes the fight has nothing to add to Joshua’s portfolio.

“This fight adds zero credibility to AJ’s resume. He’s supposed to win this fight, and when he does, what does he gain or learn by beating someone in his second HW fight?” he said. “If he loses, then it’s an absolute disaster. The same stood for Fury, and it almost cost him everything.”

Is this matchup a fallacy in the making? It sure looks like fans must wait a few more months for the answer.
