Tyson Fury Suffers a ‘Severe Cut’ So the Undisputed Fight with Oleksandr Usyk is Postponed

There was something weird going on with regard to the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk undisputed heavyweight title fight, as there was a significant lack of buzz for this mega event titled Ring of Fire. Now we know as ESPN’s Mike Coppinger is reporting that the fight has been postponed due to Fury suffering a cut on his eye.

Tyson Fury suffered a severe cut today while sparring that required stitches, and his undisputed heavyweight championship fight with Oleksandr Usyk, scheduled for Feb. 17 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has been postponed, sources tell ESPN” posted Coppinger on his X account.

Validating the news was SI’s Chris Mannix, who posted, “Tyson Fury has suffered a cut in training and is out of the undisputed heavyweight title fight with Oleksandr Usyk, Usyk’s manager, Egis Klimas, told SI.”

Although this may have been surprising news to some, many on social media predicted that such a thing would occur with Fury. In his post-fight interview, Fury mentioned fighting in the spring and not as soon as February after his embarrassing performance against Francis Ngannou in September. Yesterday, I filed a column that cited the lack of buzz for such a big fight, and when things are this quiet, it usually means something is up, and now we know.

Here is a statement from Team Fury.

Mannix also reported that Team Usyk is trying to save the date, but anyone he fights other than Fury won’t be received well and isn’t going to be a “must-see.” FightsATW will continue to monitor this story.
