What is next for Sebastian Fundora?

Fundora (25-1-1, 17 KOs) scored a buzz-beater 12th-round TKO win over Ermal Hadribeaj (23-1-1, 8 KOs) in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Fundora, best known as a 6’ 6” junior middleweight, has become a destructive puncher. After mixed results, including a draw with Jamontay Clark, Fundora would get his big break by stopping Erickson Lubin. As he looked to ascend to the top of the sport, God had other plans. In 2023, Brian Mendoza brutally knocked him out. Then came Fundora’s great wins. He would beat Tim Tszyu twice, stopping Tszyu the second time.

He would defeat Keith Thurman, a fringe Hall of Famer, and somewhat become what Thurman was in the last era for PBC… the guy entrusted with big moments. Fundora, as he pointed out in the post-fight presser, was the first main event on Amazon Prime Video and now started off the PBC / TNT Sports collab partnership. To be fair, Fundora stepped in as a late sub for Thurman, who was injured and set to face Tszyu.

So what is next for “The Towering Inferno”?

Jaron “Boots” Ennis-Josh Kelly winner

Ennis and Kelly will fight in a unification bout sometime next year (rumors point to January). Fundora holds the only other belt in the division. It would be a perfect fight, an undisputed champion crowned against two of the most impressive fighters of this era.

Israil Madrimov

Remember him? He fought Terence Crawford in 2024, then Vergil Ortiz the following year. He has fought once this year, and that was in January. If Fundora were to take a fight in between, why not a fight against a tricky mover, considered one of the best in the division?

Brandon Adams

Adams is currently the highest-rated fighter in the WBC rankings. He was set for a title eliminator earlier this year, but it fell apart fight week. Adams has never taken an easy path and is deserving of this type of challenge.

Bakhram Murtazaliev

Murtazaliev stopped Tim Tszyu, then struggled to get fights. He arguably had a draw with Josh Kelly if a knockdown was called. He feels like a fighter; the sport is eager to put him on the back burner. Give Murtazaliev a chance against Fundora; who knows, it could lead to a “Fight of the Year”.

Rashidi Ellis

At this point, Ellis should get one last chance, right? It isn’t a thrilling fight, especially since Ellis essentially lost to Roiman Villa nearly four years ago and has made no significant impact on boxing since then. Yet Ellis is ranked by the WBC and has hung around. Sometimes staying the course and being available can merit a shot.
