Jamie Munguia vs. John Ryder: Preview & Prediction

A pivotal clash in the super middleweight division between Jaime Munguia and John Ryder goes down this Saturday night. Munguia will put the WBC Silver super middleweight championship at stake when he meets Ryder one-on-one. The Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona, will play host to the matchup.

Munguia, a former WBO junior middleweight champion, hopes to get a big fight at 168 pounds and keep his unbeaten streak intact. Going into this weekend’s showdown with Ryder, Munguia has a pro record of 42-0, and he’s only gone the distance nine times.

Ryder has long been known for being a tough out against anybody. He further proved that with his losing effort to Canelo Alvarez in May 2023. At the age of 35, Ryder has another chance to make a statement and possibly get one last crack at a non-interim world title.

Who will walk out of the Footprint Center as the winner?

Jaime Munguia vs. John Ryder Preview & Prediction

Munguia has never been shy to swing heavy leather, which was evident in his last outing against Sergiy Derevyanchenko. He was also on the receiving end of some hard shots but outlasted his opponent to take the close but unanimous decision victory. If he keeps fighting like that, then a far more talented and fresher fighter than Derevyanchenko will stop him in his tracks.

I don’t believe John Ryder is that guy.

Ryder will have his moments against Munguia, thanks to his odd angles. Munguia also figures to struggle with Ryder’s southpaw stance at times as well. It’s a fight that Munguia will want to avoid, becoming a tactical one because Ryder can steal rounds. He will want to make this one uncomfortable for his opponent.

Ultimately, I think Munguia’s punching power and relentlessness won’t allow Ryder to get enough of an edge for 12 rounds to win. I expect Munguia to have his hand raised following another hard-fought battle.

Prediction: Jaime Munguia via unanimous decision
