On Saturday night, Matchroom Boxing & DAZN host a homecoming event for IBF welterweight champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs) as he defends his title against replacement opponent David Avanesyan (30-4-1, 18 KOs). Ennis was elevated to full champion in November when former undisputed welterweight champion Terence Crawford chose not to make a fight with him to pursue a title at junior middleweight.

It’s been a year since Ennis last stopped Roiman Villa in Atlantic City, NJ. Afterward, Showtime Boxing closed its doors, leaving Ennis without a promoter and network, which led to his signing with Matchroom Boxing. Ennis’ first fight of his new deal is a homecoming at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA. Can Ennis regain that momentum he lost due to his inactivity?

Avanesyan has fought some talented fighters, one of them being Terence Crawford, in December 2022, when he was stopped in the sixth round of their fight. He is now 35 and will have to make everything out of what could be his last opportunity at a title. Can Avanesyan pull off the upset?
