Jaron Ennis’ Father Opens Up About Failed Negotiations with Terence Crawford

Jaron Ennis (31-0-1, 28 KOs), who was the interim IBF welterweight champion, was made the welterweight champion by the organization on November 9, 2023. However, this title win was not in the manner that Ennis had envisioned. Ennis’ father, Bozy Ennis, recently broke the silence on the IBF welterweight title and failed negotiations with the division’s undisputed champion, Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs)

‘Boots’ has been long chasing a title fight with Crawford. However, ‘Bud’s refusal to defend his IBF title against the mandatory Ennis led to him being stripped of the title. This, in turn, promoted Ennis as the organization’s welterweight champion.

Bozy Ennis is building a nice team stable of fighters.

“We talked about that. But Crawford didn’t want to fight Boots because he (Crawford) can’t make no money. But he fought Avanesyan, and Boots is way more known than Avanesyan,” the older Ennis said in an interview with BoxingScene.

He further mentioned they wanted to fight Crawford for the title and not have it handed over to them and added that Ennis had waited for two years in hopes of making the fight happen.

Meanwhile, the older Ennis took offense to ‘Bud’ referring to his son as the “email champion.” “Someone was saying that Terence was saying that they gave him the title. But we wanted to fight you,” he said. “We wanted to fight you, and you had the nerve to say that we got the title that way. Nah, we’ve been in line.”

Terence Crawford is not “mad” about it

While he was stripped of the IBF title, it sure looks like it did not ruffle Bud Crawford’s feathers.

In an interview, he was asked if he was affected by the IBF taking away his title. “I’m not mad at ‘em. I got what I needed, and that was undisputed, and the rest is history. I don’t care about none of that,” he said.

Crawford, however, mentioned that he understands that Ennis is disappointed about not winning the title from the champion, but he added that he would not have accepted the belt if he were in Ennis’ place. ‘Bud’ revealed that he would rather fight another fighter than receive his “belt in the mail.”
