Jermall Charlo on Possibly Facing Canelo ‘I haven’t even talked to Al Haymon since I last fought’

Rumors continue to swirl that the undisputed super middleweight king Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez will be facing Jermall Charlo on May 4 in Las Vegas, NV. While on vacation in Turks & Caicos, Charlo decided to address the rumors and reports that a fight with Canelo is done.

In a video posted on Instagram, Charlo said, “I haven’t even talked to Al Haymon since I last fought. So everybody that keeps talking about, ‘You’re about to fight Canelo,’ – ain’t no confirmation.” Charlo is giving off mixed messages as hours before, he posted a picture on his Instagram stories that showed an account announcing Canelo vs. Charlo on May 4.

Yesterday, Canelo went on Box Azteca to announce his next fight date and location, but he left the door open to assumptions when he said that his opponent would be an American fighter. This ruled out the possibility of Jaime Munguia or David Benavidez on the widely popular Cinco de Mayo fight weekend. With the Ring Magazine putting out a story that the fight between Canelo and Charlo looks to be the one for May 4, many believed the announcement was imminent.

Now, with this latest post from Charlo it adds a little bit of drama to the whole situation surrounding Canelo and his relationship with PBC. The fight date is a little over two months away, and there hasn’t been a press release to announce the event formally. Will the fight details get sorted out, and Canelo does end up facing Charlo, or has the recent public backlash of Charlo being an opponent changed the path of the Mexican great?

FightsATW will continue to monitor this story as it develops.
