Josh Taylor vs Jack Catterall 2 Suffers Yet Another Postponement

The rematch between Josh Taylor (19-1, 13 KOs) and Jack Catterall (28-1, 13 KOs) has suffered yet another setback, with Taylor injuring himself during training camp. ESPN’s Mike Coppinger broke the news earlier today via his X account.

“The Josh Taylor-Jack Catterall rematch has been postponed … again. Taylor suffered an injury that forced him to withdraw from the April 27 return bout vs. Catterall in Leeds, England, sources told ESPN. Taylor-Catterall 2 expected to be rescheduled as soon as late May.”

Although a postponement is better than a cancelation, this puts a damper on fans who made travel plans and arrangements surrounding the April 27 date that this fight was scheduled to take place. The rematch has been on and off since their controversial first fight in April 2022. Taylor suffered an injury and then decided to move on from the fight, which led to his loss to Teofimo Lopez in June 2023.

The odd thing about this rematch is that it would take place in the junior welterweight division, which Taylor has openly admitted to being extremely hard to make. Colin Morrison for FightsATW wrote a column after the rematch was announced for April, questioning whether the fight being at 140 pounds made sense for Taylor at this point of his career.

With the fight being reported to take place as late as May, it adds to a month that will have Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs Jaime Munguia and Naoya Inoue vs Luis Nery. If you are a fight fan, May is your month, so prepare for an exciting fight schedule.
