Oleksandr Usyk Crushes All Doubts About His Victory Against Tyson Fury

February 17, 2024, will potentially see one of the most anticipated fights in the heavyweight division, where Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) will test his mettle against the division’s reigning godfather, Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs), in a quest to become the undisputed champion of the division. As the date for the titans to collide edges closer, it looks like Usyk is confident that he will become the next undisputed heavyweight champion.

In conversation with Sky Sports, he was asked if he was certain that he would emerge victorious.

“Firstly, it’s not ‘if’ I win but ‘when’ I win,” Usyk responded. “When I go to sleep, I imagine myself boxing, then my hand raised high. I simply believe that I can win.”

The matchup has kept fans waiting since early 2023. However, the fight never materialized as the talks between the duo never reached fruition. But now, with a prospective date jotted down, Fury has not shied away from unceasingly taking digs at Usyk. In fact, the term “rabbit” has been one of Fury’s favorite insults for the champ from Ukraine.

“I got into his head, and now, instead of me, he thinks about a rabbit. Keep thinking, brother,” Usyk said about Fury’s use of the term. “I have listened to Eminem for many years; his mum used to call him a white rabbit. I don’t know, I like this rapper. Tony Bellew once said that I am a beast in boxing. I said: ‘Not really, I’m just a white rabbit.”

Usyk further mentioned that he wishes to follow his father’s example of being a good person first and believes everything will fall into place.

Anthony Joshua believes that Usyk has the edge

Meanwhile, it looks like Usyk has found the support of former opponent Anthony Joshua (27-3, 24KOs). Joshua, who has previously faced Usyk, believes that he might end up being the better fighter.

“I really want to be here for that fight. You’ve probably heard it a few times, but I think Usyk is a phenomenal fighter, and he’s got a great team around him,” Joshua said in an interview. “Having been in the ring with him and studying him, I think he’s the one to edge it probably because of my experiences of his ring craft, and I think it’s top tier.”

With Usyk expressing confidence in his victory, there is no denying that the wait for the fight night has further intensified.
