Oscar De La Hoya Urges Eddie Hearn to Join Him in Becoming ‘Leaders of Boxing’

Golden Boy Promotions’ main man, Oscar De La Hoya, is riding the victory train as a promoter after a successful career as a boxer. He is currently set to showcase an iconic event along with Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn, as their wards Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) and Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) plan to battle it out at the Barclay Center in New York on April 20, 2024. As the fight date approaches, De La Hoya revealed why Hearn should join him in becoming a leader of boxing.

Eddie Hearn and De La Hoya were recently interviewed with Chris Mannix on DAZN. In conversation, De La Hoya delved into why he and Hearn became successful in the world of boxing promotions. “The fight has to make sense, and I’ve been promoting now for 22 years, and the reason why we’ve been successful is because we make the right fights and the right fights at the right time,” he said.

He then mentioned that if the Matchroom stable has fighters that make sense to Golden Boy, then he’d be more than willing to make the fights happen on DAZN. “We share the same platform. We should be working together more often. We should be the leaders of boxing and show the world that we want to make the great fights for the fans, and that’s the bottom line,” De La Hoya added.

On the other hand, Hearn also nodded in agreement and stated that he has a better relationship with Golden Boy than with Queensbury promotions. In fact, he even revealed that he has never met or spoken to Fran Warren despite working with him on multiple occasions.

De La Hoya previously worked with Premier Boxing Champions when Garcia faced off against Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis(29-0, 27 KOs). However, De La Hoya says working with Garcia has not been easy. “Making that fight with PBC, Ryan Garcia was not easy at all. It was very, very difficult, but when you make it happen, and you fight for your partner the way we did,” he said.

He also mentioned that they fought for DAZN to be a part of the promotions, but things turned out well in the end, and they got one of the “biggest fights of the year for boxing.”
