Prime Video Releases PPV Price for Tszyu vs Fundora

Things have been a little slow regarding Prime Video’s rollout supporting their upcoming inaugural boxing event on March 30, headlined by Tim Tszyu (24-0, 17 KOs) vs Sebastian Fundora (20-1-1, 13 KOs). The “Gloves Off” shoulder programming was just released a week ago, and today, the price for the PPV on their platform was posted ($69.95). This is five cents less than PPV.com’s price, and regardless if you are a Prime Video member (Only an Amazon Account is required for purchase), you can watch it on their platform. From a consumer standpoint, there was hope that things would be a little cheaper, given that the event was on an established subscription streaming platform like Prime Video, but that isn’t the case.

If you’ve been following closely with things surrounding this inaugural event that partners Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) and Prime Video, some familiar faces from Showtime Boxing have crossed over into this new venture. Former Showtime Sports Head Stephen Espinoza was one of the executive producers for Gloves Off, and the announce crew for the event was reported by Boxing Scene as Brian Custer, Abner Mares, Mauro Ranallo, and Joe Goosen. So, as of right now, the inaugural event will have a Showtime Boxing feel to it, as the crew is just replacing the logo on the mics. Depending on who you ask, this could be a good or bad thing. Still, for a new business relationship, continuity at the beginning sometimes helps get the product “over” with the people consuming it.

Is the price point too high for Tim Tszyu vs Sebastian Fundora?

For those who may not be familiar with the Prime Video world, the event will also be on traditional cable PPV and PPV.com ($69.99). Viewing options are available to make this inaugural event accessible for every type of fan, whether they like consuming special boxing events traditionally (InDemand Cable PPV) or digitally (Prime Video & PPV.com).

Although Espinoza mentioned to FightsATW that there will be some “experimenting” in future shoulder programming, the overall feeling of this new partnership between Prime Video and PBC is Showtime-like. If what Espinoza mentioned is true on the shoulder programming side of things, then there is potential that some slight adjustments in the overall product will be made along the way, making this feel a little different than the one that ran on Showtime for 37 years.
