The relatively new combat sports promotion Dirty Boxing Championship (DBX) will host its sixth event, on Friday, April 10, appropriately titled “DBX6,” live from the James L. Knight Center in Miami, FL, and streamed on the Dirty Boxing YouTube page. The main event features Rob ‘The Wolf’ Perez facing Michael Garcia for the DBX interim heavyweight title. As fight night approaches, Perez is full of energy and intensity, eager to unleash ‘The Wolf’ on fight night.
The 33-year-old Perez from Southbridge, MA, has been involved in the combat sports world for less than a handful of years, but during that time, he has boxed professionally, participated in Bare Knuckle Boxing, and also competed in Slap Boxing. In the end, Perez found a home with DBX, where he feels comfortable. “They (DBX) are an amazing promotion,” Perez told FightsATW. “Out of all the promotions, they really care about the fighters from the moment you sign the contract to even days after the fight.”
Launched in 2024, DBX is a hybrid of boxing and MMA, featuring 4-ounce gloves, a custom ring, and allowing “ground & pound” and elbows. It prohibits holding and has three-minute rounds. All of this fits well for a fighter known as The Wolf.
Speaking of Perez’s moniker, there isn’t a unique story behind it, as he states, The Wolf has always been part of his life since he was a child. “I swear I have multiple personality disorder,” said Perez. “He’s always been a part of me since day one when I was a kid. He likes the attention, shine, and nitty-gritty. The name stuck with me when I was doing Rough and Rowdy. That’s where it started.”
What is interesting is that Perez mostly speaks in third person, as The Wolf persona is in the driver’s seat when it comes to fighting and everything leading up to it. Just don’t ask him about Rob, as he will quickly let you know that Rob is reserved for those closest to him.
“They don’t need to know who Rob Perez is,” said Perez. “Rob is dead. They need to know who ‘The Wolf’ is. The Wolf is a crazy motherf*cker. Rob is more on my personal level. You have to be family and close in my circle to know who Rob is. But the Wolf, on the other hand, is a sick, deranged motherf*cker, and I’m surprised he’s not locked up in an insane asylum yet. He’s dirty and likes to get dirty. I’m glad they came out with DBX (Dirty Boxing Championship) because I would have been getting so many fines in boxing for the sh*t that I be causing. I’m a dangerous motherf*cker. I talk that sh*t and walk that walk.”
In all seriousness, Perez said he’s just having fun and feels blessed to be able to focus on training without a 9-5 job. He is dedicated to supporting his family and setting a good example for his kids.
On April 10, Perez is facing Garcia for the interim heavyweight title, and The Wolf doesn’t think Garcia should even get the chance because of his boring fighting style. So what does Perez think of Garcia overall? “Michael Garcia is a little too cocky for his level of stature. There are levels to this sh*t. In his mind, he thinks he deserves this belt. Which is not the case.”
With only a few days remaining before fight night, what can fans tuning in expect from Perez?
“They can expect to see some crazy as$ sh*t,” Perez told FightsATW. “I don’t see too many guys that can take a hit and still walk a motherf*cker down, and that’s what I do. He can throw all the elbows he wants. He’s going to feel the hurt. You don’t want to miss this. I’ve been out for almost a year, and I haven’t been able to put my hands on anyone without feeling bad. On fight night, that flip gets switched.” Perez continued, “The people will get their money’s worth on April 10.”
The Wolf Perez is certainly a character, and on Friday night, he gets the opportunity to back up all the talk when he faces Garcia live on DBX 6. Will this promotion catch fire and is it going to be behind Perez’s style in and out of the ring? Time will tell, but first comes DBX6 on Friday, live on YouTube.
