Ryan Garcia: ‘If I Catch That Dude, They’re Going To Be Impressed With A Knockout’

Boxing star Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) is ready to leave a lasting impression on the fans after Friday night’s fight against Rolando “Rolly” Romero (16-2, 13 KOs) in the middle of Times Square in New York City.

While at a media workout in San Diego, CA, hosted by Golden Boy Promotions a short time ago, Garcia took a moment to answer questions from the media. When it was time for FightsATW to ask Garcia a question, it leaned more toward the impression he wanted to leave with fans after they saw his fight against Romero, which streams live Friday night on DAZN PPV.

“I think they (fans) are going to be impressed with my technique, my ring generalship, and if I catch that dude (Romero), they are going to be impressed with a knockout,” said a confident Garcia. “In this fight, a lot of things can happen. He’s going to be throwing bombs, which will open him up. It’s just for me to time the shots correctly and to see what approach he has. He’s tried to box the last few times around, moving around the ring, etc., so I don’t really know what style he is going to bring.”

Garcia seemed more focused than the wild person we all witnessed leading up to the Haney fight. When watching him in person at the media workout in San Diego and then in NYC this week, Garcia looks as locked in as he’s been in a while. There are no outside distractions, the social media account has been calm, and even when answering questions from the media, he takes his time to ensure he says all the right things. This is what Garcia fans have been waiting for, and if all of this leads to a big performance on Friday, then his star will only get brighter, leading to even bigger fights under Golden Boy and Riyadh Season.

His opponent, Romero, appears equally focused, as he has limited social media shenanigans while saying and doing all the right things in a public setting. Rolly will be Rolly, though, and at times, his wild personality creeps out, but this has been the most focused fans have seen him since the Gervonta Davis fight in May. Even though he was knocked out in that fight, it was a defensive miscue and not his preparation that failed him that night. Up to that point of the knockout, Romero had many moments against Davis. This may be Romero’s last opportunity at a big fight, so winning is a must.
